Salma Hayek Doesn’t Believe In The Pregnancy Glow

Salma Hayek’s first role since the birth of her daughter Valentina Paloma in September 2007, has her sporting a beard for the supernatural thriller Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, in theatres October 23.

In a recent interview with Parade, the 43-year-old actress likens her bushy beard to the so-called pregnancy glow:

Everybody said, ‘Oh, my God. You look so hot with the beard.’ It’s like when people tell you, ‘You look gorgeous,’ when you are pregnant. You are like a swollen whale and never looked worse in your life. And somebody goes, ‘You’re glowing.’ They don’t have the courage to tell you how bad you look.

“Valentina saw me with the beard and seemed to understand it was only makeup,” adds Salma. “She was seven months old and she was not freaking out.”

The Frida actress, who recently wed Valentina’s French billionaire father François-Henri Pinault, loved being able to have her now 2-year-old daughter on the set with her during production: “I kept my daughter with me the whole time we were filming because otherwise I don’t see her the whole day,” she says. “She’s an amazing child. At nine months old she was already walking and talking.”

Though she may play a “freak” in The Vampire’s Assistant, she believes it’s the paparazzi who are the real freaks: “I think what’s freaky is those guys with the cameras who are so desperate and so excited because they’re seeing you walk into a supermarket and they want to get a picture,” says Salma. “I think that’s freaky. They’re the freaks. I’m not a freak but, I’m being attacked by the freaks sometimes. That’s the strange part.”

Strange woman. And some women look good pregnant not like ‘whales’ b/c they take care of themselves and do not gain excessively. Speak for yourself. It annoys me when someone (a woman no less should know better) does the whole ‘ew gross women look terrible’ when pregnant. The miracle of life is not ugly in any way and people who see it that way strike me as incredibly juvenile.

Yeah, Anonymous, I’m kinda with you- I love Salma, she seems like a beautiful woman both inside and out- but I have to disagree with her here. I think most women are still beautiful while pregnant, even when the pregnancy distorts their features (i.e. bigger nose, heavier, etc.). Maybe she felt ugly, I thought she was gorgeous while pregnant, so it’s a matter of perspective.

You don’t always look, or FEEL for that matter, great when you’re pregnant. It varies woman to woman (even pregnancy to pregnancy). Also, the drastic body changes you go through during this time might not be a big deal to the average chick, but to someone who hooks roles with her looks and seals the deal with her talent, yeah, it may well be a pretty big freaking deal.

it is so dumb to say… i’m sure some woman do not feel comfortable, but often it is just this inner glowing, happy state of mind that is also visible on the outside, no matter how “unattravtive” the pearson looks like!!! it is not all about glamour look or “perfect” body shape. in fact, there are many beautiful people without this special good energy!
