Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Donate $100,000 To SOS Children’s Villages

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie definitely helped to spread some holiday cheer this season.

The star couple, known for their generosity, donated $100,000 to the American SOS Children’s Villages – an organization which focuses on the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children.

“We have seen first-hand the remarkable job SOS does to raise orphaned and abandoned children and keep families together,” said Angelina in a statement. “No one ‘ages out’ of an SOS Village: vocational training, advanced education, living assistance and moral support are there forever.”

The organization’s CEO, Heather Paul, expressed her thanks to the Jolie-Pitt for their donation and longtime support: “We are deeply grateful that this year they have included in their generosity our villages in Illinois and Florida and our 300 children who call SOS ‘home.’”

Brad added: “In this holiday season, many of us take for granted that we are surrounded by loving family members. The poor outcomes for foster children indicate that we must do a much better job of supporting them.”

Recently it was revealed that the couple donated over $6 million to different charities in 2008.

Do we REALLY need a press release to inform us of how much they’ve donated to a charity? Yes, I realize that celebs use their status to champion causes and raise awareness, but I don’t think we need to know if/how much they’ve donated. It’s just plain tacky. Celebs like Johnny Depp seem to be able to contribute to various charities without bragging on themselves.

……which is about equivalent to me donating $10. to a charity. Again, I say for the second time today…..WHO CARES??????

It does seem rather sad that a family cannot go out for a bite to eat without having their privacy invaded – imagine how nerve wracking that would be, to have your every move observed.

The press needs to realize sometimes the photo op occasionally needs to be reconsidered and the rights of the individuals need to be taken into account.

I agree. It sounds more like ‘look at me how generous i am’. I actually think better of those who donate without getting media coverage for it. And for those who would say it’s not their fault, of course it is! They have publicists/managers and they know exactly what they’re gonna release about they do to the public. So don’t start with this they-don’t-know-a-thing crap.

It’s good they’re donating, but gimme a break.

Look at us we are so altruistic. So fake phony and self-serving.

  • Anna

It could be that SOS asked them to make this public to bring attention to the cause.

Actually, they didn’t release this information. The charity did. It was on the charity’s website. Maybe Angelina and Brad told the charity that they didn’t mind if they announced it, but Angelina and Brad themselves did not reveal the information to the media. Besides, I’d never heard of this charity before and the announcement had me going to the charity’s website to find out about them. So, I guess hearing about their donation did some good after all. I’m sure there are many others like me who checked out a charity they knew nothing about after hearing this news.

Still. There’s way to make an organization or charity known without publicizing how much you’re donating to them.

Wonderful that celebs donate so much to good causes, but I guess it’s just a coincidence that so many of these charitable donations occur just before the end of the US tax year. I wonder if they’d donate if they didn’t have a tax liability for that year.

Sure, it could have been anonymous, HOWEVER…would any of us heard of this organization if the Jolie-Pitts had not donated?

I think awareness brought to the organization is immeasurable, so let’s just give them a break. They give because they CARE about children, CLEARLY! not because they want credit. These are celebrities who willingly give of their TIME probably more than their money to help the causes that mean the most to them.

So, how about you all who don’t like Angelina quit picking all this apart, and take her lead and DO more for a charity that you care about! Do what you can to bring awareness to something that touches your heart instead of being petty. It’s a new year….be a grown up.
