Update: Charlie Sheen Spends Christmas Day In Jail

Update: Rumors and reports are flying following the news of Charlie Sheen's arrest for domestic assault yesterday (December 25).

RadarOnline is reporting that Charlie and his wife of less than two years Brooke Mueller have been separated for the past several months, and that the actor had only recently arrived in Aspen to spend Christmas with the family.

"Both of them are miserable in the marriage. That's why they were apart," a source close to the couple claims. "Both were separately telling friends their marriage was over before this happened."

In the meantime, according to TMZ Brooke was intoxicated at the time of the call to 911 and Charlie told police he was just trying to defend himself against her attacks.

Brooke reportedly recanted her original version of the day's events shortly before Charlie's bail hearing, though there are rumors that she was pressured into doing so.

Actor Charlie Sheen was arrested on Christmas morning on domestic assault charges in Apsen, Colorado, where he was spending the holidays with his family.

The arrest took place after the Two and a Half Men star allegedly got into an altercation with his wife Brooke Mueller, with whom he has 9-month-old twins Max and Bob. According to a spokesperson for the Pitkin County Sheriff's Department in Aspen, Charlie was was booked for second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief after police were called to the family's residence.

He was released at 7pm after posting an $8,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court February 8, 2010.

The actor's rep issued the following statement after the arrest: "Do not be mislead by appearance. Appearance and reality can be as different as night and day. It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion."
