Sad and surprising news out of Hollywood today: Kate Winslet and her husband Sam Mendes have called it quits after 6 years of marriage.
The very talented duo - she picked up an Oscar for last year's The Reader, he for directing the 1999 film American Beauty - announced the break-up today in a statement released by their lawyers.
"Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family."
The couple, who worked together on last year's critically-acclaimed film Revolutionary Road, are parents to 6-year-old son Joe and Kate also has 9-year-old daughter Mia Honey from her previous marriage to Jim Threapleton.

So sad to read about this. They seemed to be so perfect for one another. Wonder what happened. Hopefully their divorce will be amicable.
I was just talking about them today, saying how they seem to be so great together. How sad! At least they're staying friends and are committed to raising Mia and Joe. But still, any relationship ending is sad news.
