Padma Lakshmi Talks Body Image & Love

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi welcomed daughter Krishna three months ago, and like most celebrity moms, she felt pressure to return to her pre-pregnancy weight quickly. The 39-year-old suffered from endometriosis, which made for a “complicated” pregnancy followed up with six weeks of bedrest postpartum, making it impossible for her to lose the 25lbs. she had gained. Of accepting her post-baby body, Lakshmi told US Weekly,

The minute I wasn’t bedridden… I got to work…. I was 25 pounds heavier than people are used to seeing me. There was nothing I could do about it, so I just accepted it. I just thought, I had a baby, that’s way more important. Women are beautiful in all shapes and sizes and I wanted to show women that you can dress well, that you can still feel sexy, that you can still feel confident, and it was OK if my boobs were big because I was feeding another human being.”

The new mom then gushed about spending time with her daughter, saying, “I love giving her a bath in the bathtub. I love just holding her and nursing her and falling asleep with her on my chest.”

Krishna’s father is Adam Dell, brother of media mogul/Dell computer founder Michael Dell. The two are not together, and according to Page Six, Lakshmi is smitten on billionaire venture capitalist Teddy Forstmann. She reportedly announced at a fundraiser, “I am lucky to have someone who unwaveringly gave me love and manly support — and is also the person that I love. So thank you, Teddy.”
