Snoop Dogg Opens Up About Daughter’s Battle With Lupus

Rapper Snoop Dogg is dad to three children with highschool sweetheart Shanté Broadus, sons Corde, 16, Cordell, 13, and daughter Cori, 10.

Snoop, (born Cordozar Calvin Broadus,) and his wife faced a difficult reality five years ago when daughter Cori was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus. In an interview with People, Snoop opened up about Cori’s symptoms, and the process that led to discovering her illness.

A light spot on Cori’s face was the couples first indication that something was wrong, followed by weight loss and hair loss. After seeing doctors and not receiving a diagnoses Snoop said that he “felt helpless. No power, no friends.” Shanté added, “No one could tell me what was wrong. They drew tons of blood and said she has old-person cells. They gave her all kinds of [medication]. But she went downhill.”

Months later Cori was diagnosed with Lupus. Of his daughter, the proud father said said,

“She’s the toughest little thing I’ve ever met. She’s on the honor roll, playing volleyball and softball, living life. She has all this joy. In the beginning lupus was winning. But now Cori is.”

These rappers can be surprisingly deep and thoughtful. I wish they would show this responsible side more often.
