Kate Gosselin's Kids Could Be Forced Off Of Reality T.V.

In news that will be a relief to some, US reports that Rep. Thomas Murt of Pennsylvania is questioning the legality of shows like Kate Gosselin's Kate Plus 8, which includes six children under the age of 7.

Rep. Murt argues that state law only allows child actors to be shot for films. Pennsylvania authorities insist that TLC, who airs Kate Plus 8 and its previous incarnation, Jon and Kate Plus 8, did not get the proper permission to film the children.

A recent article posted in the Los Angeles Times brings up the issues that reality television children face, who unprotected by state labor laws like paid child actors, since they are not technically considered to be "working" while filming shows.

Kate may not even need her sextuplets as co-stars, recent rumors say that the newly single mother of eight may be getting her own dating show.

If the ratings continue to drop the show will be off the air before the law ever even goes into effect. If what I read was correct, they lost almost a million viewers from June's episodes to July's.

I don't watch the show, but I read awhile back this has already been raised in the courts and thrown out. I'm sure TLC's lawyers are making sure they have the legal rights to make the show rather than risk huge fines or having their show shut down.

I also find it amusing that legislators only seemed to care about this show and the children's well-being once it became popular, where were they during its first 2 years? Seems to me they see an issue they can jump on to put their name in the spotlight.

I hope this show goes off air very soon and the kids can be left alone and not be filmed.

What about 19 Kids and Counting? Wouldn't the same be for this show? I think its interesting that this is only being brought up now. I don't know why Kate would care, the show/special is really all about her anywhere. You can remove the kids and it is still all about her. Even though this has been dropped before I hope through this the children can get out of the spot light and move on. The kids don't need to be on tv.

Laws regarding child actors and the amount of hours they are permitted to work belong to the states. That is why it is a congressman from the state of Pennsylvania that is bringing this up. Whatever laws are enacted, they will pertain to Pennsylvania only (where the Gosselins live). The Duggars live (and film) in Arkansas. In order for any new laws to affect them, the legislators in that state will need to enact them.

I dont see why they even stilll have the show i mean once jon and kate "split up" it all went downhill from there no one even watched the show after that it was all about "awww look at me im a single mom with 8 kids i dont know what im going to do im just a little princess who doesnt like to get her hands dirty"

If you don't like the show just turn it off, no one says you have to watch it. I personally like the show and I like seeing the children. Let Kate earn a living for the children, since her x doesn't seem to pay child support. Why would you care if the show stays on TLC if you don't like it? JUST DON'T WATCH IT....
