Katherine Heigl: “Adoption Felt Natural & Right To Me”

Life As We Know It star Katherine Heigl shines on the cover of the November issue of REDBOOK magazine. In the interview, the busy mom talks about the relief of bringing her daughter Naleigh home last year, and the challenge of juggling motherhood and movie-making.

On adopting her daughter, Naleigh: “When she was finally in my arms, I was so relieved…now I got to hold her and smell her and know her. We still talk about having biological children as well—I’m not ruling anything out…. Adoption has been a part of my life and a part of my family, so it was how I wanted to start. It felt natural and right to me.”

On her husband, Josh Kelley: “He’s a great dad. I didn’t expect it: He’s such a guy… I adore him, I can’t imagine being with another man, but he can be very self-absorbed. Not in an egomaniacal way, just kind of in his own head and unfocused on anything other than his own stuff. So I was really surprised by how on top of it and how connected he is.”

On balancing career and motherhood: “Most of Life As We Know It is a complete blur. I had just become a mom. I still don’t necessarily always know what I am doing, and I certainly didn’t then… I was all over the place. I was really trying too hard. I was completely bonkers. If I spread myself too thin, I’m not a good actor, I’m not a good mother, and I’m just really high-strung—and everybody hates me.”

She looks a lot better with dark hair.

Way to throw your husband under the bus.

well she got the last part right.

I don’t think she is throwing her husband under the bus. She is saying exactly what I have noticed in many of my friends and relatives who are first-time dads: They have used to be focused only on their own things, but when the baby comes, they are surprisingly on top of things. It just sounds honest (maybe too honest for a magazine interview…) for me.

i didn’t think she was throwing her hubs under the bus. In fact, quite the oposite. I think she carefully worded what she was trying to say so that people understood. Clearly, that didn’t work out so well for you though.

Beautiful family!

I adore Katherine’s honesty – it is truly refreshing. Beautiful family.
