Arnold Schwarzenegger Fathered Child With Longtime Member Of Household Staff

The marital split of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver took a shocking new twist today. The 25-year marriage ended after Maria was informed that her husband and a longtime female member of their household staff had a child together more than a decade ago, Los Angeles Times reports.

Reportedly, Maria moved out of the couple's Brentwood mansion earlier this year after Arnold confirmed the paternity. The employee had retired in January after 20 years with the family, the Times reports.

In a statement to the newspaper, the 63-year-old former California Gov. said:

After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."

He went on to say, "I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."

The Terminator actor also said he financially provided for the child.

Arnold and Maria have four children together: Katherine, 21, Cristina, 19, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13.

This man is pathetic. Nothing more to say, except wishes for Maria to have a bright and happy future with her children.

So has he known for the past 10 yrs? And he just told Maria in January?

Anonymous said:

Disgusting. I hope the child in question does not suffer for this.

No surprise here.

I always suspected he was a douchebag.

Gotta love those Republican family values!

I seem to remember a couple of Democrats that were presidents named Bill Clinton, John Kennedy (among others), who fooled around. It has nothing to do with a certain party.

Democrats aren't the ones who try to dictate how other people should their lives. Democrats aren't the ones who claim to be the party of "family values." Democrats aren't the ones who claim to have superior "morals." The point is the hypocrisy. The point is when your party is the one who's trying to make discrimination against people who are what you consider "immoral" (gay people), you better be sure your own house is in order.

Great response. I could not agree with you more!

Nice try.

Deny it.

Spot on! So much so that there is (obviously) no real response. lol

Obviously the original poster is clearly out of her mind. Both democrats and republicans tout their family and moral values. To make a comment about republicans...is simply idiotic. Republicans are not just about 'religion and family values'. A lot of their views depend more on economical and international issues. You tried to sound smart...but you FAILED

No party bias. Zippers seem to fail for both Repub. and Dems.

Maybe you should have continued reading the rest of the comments before making yet another comment completely missing the point. The point is about the hypocrisy. Republicans are the only only ones who run on a platform of "family values" and demonize people who don't live up to their alleged values.

Really. I read them and then came back to this one. Ta da!!

Okay, I see. You're just an idiot, then.

Stellar retort there. How old is the average commentator in this specifi thread? It is not a political issue despite the fact that the DEMOCRATS do not come out and tout morality and honor as a key point in their platforms. I seem to remember Bill Clinton ( who I like a lot- and am a republican), specifically noting his faith and adoration to his family a few weeks prior to committing perjury to the grand jury. John Edwards also ran on a campaign of truth and integrity while he impregnated a woman at the same time his poor wife was undergoing cancer treatment. Let's not forget the KENNEDY's whose indiscretions are too numerous to list. Each one of these political figures voiced that their faith in GOD was an instrumental force in their decision process. Is that not espousing family values and acting hypocritically? Furthermore just because an opinion on right and wrong is not LITERALLY stated, I believe as human beings we automatically assume that leaders know the difference.
This is not a republican or democrat issue. Hypocrisy comes in all colors, religions and sexes.

A democrat who agrees said:

Thanks for giving a sane reply here. I agree just because the democrats do not specifically run on family values does not mean they get carte blanche to screw around. Not sure about the reasoning of some people here. Condemn the man not the party.

Totally agree Tara. (ps I am a registered independent but have voted democrat for the past 2 presidential elections. Am- disgusted by Edwards, particularly because he DID run on family values)

He is a pig. Republicans or Democrats - who cares? All men cheat!

Tara said:

Not all. I have known some incredibly decent men in my life. Some of my friends have lucked out with amazing husbands and fathers to their kids. Listen it is a fact men are more physically motivated- THIS IN NO WAY excuses their immoral behavior. However if the women would not take them up on their advances they would have no one to cheat with. Equal guilt on both sides. To many women it is a game to them and that is just as reprehensible.

Thanks for being one of the best commenters I've seen in awhile. How sad that so many people just use these threads to push their political views, hate on celebrities they are jealous of, or rage about their own personal issues ("all men cheat?" Come on).

Your opinions are a refreshing change from 95% of the hateful comments on here (and every gossip site).

Totally agree with you! I like how she does not bow to pressure of popular opinion and is always respectful. Have always enjoyed her posts even if I do not agree all the time.

Arnold is a dirtbag and so is the mistress.

Not ALL me knew some real pig in my time BUT I also know some real men too. It take morals, charecter and a good sense of family to be a real MAN. No amount of temptation should be more irresistable than the seeing the smile on the faces of your children EVERYDAY when you come home instead on every other Saturday. It takes a real man or women to say "No Thanks honey I got better things to do with my energy." and Know when he/she gets home and sees his kids or his wife/mans smile that it was all worth the walk away. Thats a real man or women and they are out there. I promise you that!!

He's a pig, too stupid to even wear a condom. I thought I read today that he confessed to Maria after the employee retired. So why would he do that? It's good she knows of course, but if if he had let "sleeping dogs lie" he might not be facing a divorce and public condemnation. Also, the poor child may be hunted down like an animal now and her photo smeared all over the Internet. He is one dumb fool.

Anonymous said:

Someone was probably threatening to tell Maria and/or go to the tabloids - maybe the mother of the child was demanding more money, or maybe her husband found out and was upset. Who knows. But that's how these things usually work - the offending person only comes clean because the story was going to come out anyway.

I'm not sure why everyone is shocked. He has always been very open about how much he loves sex and beautiful women.

If he loves beautiful women so much, he should have picked someone else! Have you guys seen the woman he knocked up??
