With three boys under the age of five, it’s safe to say that actress Julie Bowen has her hands full! In a new interview with More magazine, the Modern Family star, who has sons Oliver, 4, and Gus and John, 2, admits that while she’s determined to be a hands-on mom, it’s not always easy.
“I have three kids. I should know how to take care of them,” Julie reasons of her and her husband Scott Phillips’ nanny-free weekend policy. “We’d be like, ‘Here comes Saturday. It’s going to be a long-ass weekend.’ All we did was poop patrol for 48 hours. When Monday would come, we’d be like, ‘Thank God.'”
When she found out she was expecting twins – conceived, she reveals, without the aid of fertility treatments – Julie says she was suitably shocked.
“I did not want twins as a second go-around. I should have been much more cautious. I should have had … half sex?” she jokes.
“At the time I only had one kid, but with two on the way I was always hearing talk about golden mystical baby things and precious time,” the funny mom recalls. “And I was like, ‘Who the f— are you talking to?!’ If you could see me naked, you would weep. Children are like crazy, drunken small people in your house.”
Joking aside, Julie, 41, says that now that she knows first-hand the challenges of motherhood, she’s glad she didn’t rush into it.
“I’m constantly shocked that I am successfully taking care of this family and that I’m capable of putting their needs in front of mine. I don’t think I could have done it in my twenties.”
