Kate Winslet & Kids Escape House Fire
| Aug 30, 2011 by KIRSTIN MIRTICH |
Kate Winslet may have survived an on-screen catastrophe in Titanic but it was the one she survived off-screen that will stick with her.
The Oscar-winning actress, 35, made headlines last week when it was revealed that she - along with her children Mia, 10, and Joe, 7, as well as boyfriend Louis Dowler - was among the group of people who made it out alive after the massive Necker Island home of Sir Richard Branson caught fire and burned to the ground.
I will never forget Richard placing his arms around both my children as we were watching the flames, and saying, 'At the end of the day, what you realize is that all that matters is the people that you love," Winslet told Entertainment Tonight. "Everything else is just stuff. And none of that stuff matters. "
"I'm just glad that everyone is safe," she added. "And this easily could not have been the case."
