Deborra Lee Furness Talks Family & Fame

For longtime couple Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee Furness, the decision to adopt was an easy one to make.

“Hugh and I were always going to adopt,” Deborra, who has kids Oscar and Ava with her handsome husband, tells Page Six Magazine. “We were going to have one [child], adopt another. When we didn’t have one, we adopted two. I can’t bear to think of a child not being cared for. I tell my own children it was their destiny to come to us.”

In addition to adoption, Deborra opens up about what it’s like being married to one of the sexiest men alive (Hugh received the People magazine honor in 2008).

“I’ve been almost pummeled as people try to get to him,” she reveals. “Literally, they will push you out of the way.”

She says that Hugh’s Hollywood success also opens them up to criticism, be it over their 13-year age difference or her curvaceous figure.

“The age thing! Truth be known, Hugh is much more mature than me, so we balance each other out,” she insists, dismissing the gap. “And heaven forbid I have a human experience and carry a little weight.”

Deb is also quick to shrug off the gossip that her husband is gay, saying, “The line I heard was, ‘Wolverine? Who would have thought?’ Hugh and I don’t pay much heed. It’s kind of tragic that these people have nothing better to do than gossip about people they don’t know.”

Having recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, the couple have one of Hollywood’s longest marriages.

Deb is the most wonderful lady and I hate it that people criticise her for not being a skinny fashion model — the kind men rarely marry or stay married to or stay faithful to. Hugh deserves a wife he can love and who loves him back, and Deb deserves a husband who loves her.

There’s nothing wrong with being a skinny fashion model, and men certainly do marry them and I’m sure a few have remained faithful to them. Just like there’s nothing wrong with NOT being a super model. Men cheat on all kinds of women.

I hate when people think it has to be all or nothing. There’s room in this world for the Miranda Kerrs AND the Deborah Furnesses! And we’re all better off for it!

I’ve never heard anyone say anything about her weight. Usually it’s because she only wears black and doesn’t do anything with her hair. She’s a very pretty lady and i dont think she’s overweight at all. Nothing a stylist couldn’t fix 🙂
But obviously Hugh doesn’t care so it reall doesn’t matter. My husband wouldn’t love me any less if I only wanted to wear one color and never used makeup or did my hair. But he does like it when I care about my appearance.

I really love Deb and her family.. Everything I’ve read, including this article just makes me love her more!

Great story. They are both wonderful people and loving parents- but I’m sorry- it is common knowledge he is gay. There is zero wrong with this- as they make a lovely and stable family. Again- not criticizing but I am in the theater world and it is quite well known that he is homosexual. That said- kudos to them for adopting and loving 2 sweet children.

“….. but I am in the theater world and it is quite well known blablabla …” LMAOOOOOO Yeah sure, and I’m Madonna! LMAO Get a life!

Unless you are male and have had some kind of sexual contact with this man, you do not **know** anything.

Besides, who cares if he gay or Catholic or a Republican. They make a great family!

Yeah because you would know better than his wife!

She seems like a woman of substance and although she’s not as well known in the biz, I’d rather hear what she has to say, see pictures, etc., than see the likes of Rachel Zoey.

Rachel Zoey annoys me and for a stylist I think she dresses terribly. Her son is adorable though!
