Jennifer Lopez Recalls Emme’s Health Scare

In an interview on CNN’s upcoming Big Stars, Big Giving special, Jennifer Lopez talks about a health scare that affected her and Marc Anthony. Soon after Emme and Max were born, she discovered a bump on her daughter’s head.

She explains, “I remember looking at Marc and going, ‘We should call the doctor’…I started panicking a little bit and he was panicking, too, because…we were thinking, Did somebody drop her when we weren’t looking?”

She added, “I just remember looking at him and saying, ‘If f Emme’s not going to be OK, I’m not going to be OK. He’s like, ‘I’m not going to be OK—none of us are going to be OK.’ ”

Luckily, Emme turned out alright after going through routine tests. The experience did make an impact on the American Idol judge.

She said, “I was thinking, ‘What if I didn’t have that? What if I didn’t have access to great health care?’ What if I was a mom just sitting there and there was something wrong with my baby and there was nothing I could do about it?”

As a result she and her sister Lynda Lopez started the Maribel Foundation, named after Marc’s sister Maribel who died of brain cancer at nine.

The not-for-profit organization is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women and children.

It’s nice to read a story like this about a star making such a meaningful contribution to society and the less fortunate, especially when kids are involved. Some celebs only seem to be good at getting on twitter and encouraging the public to give… Way to go Jennifer (and Angelina, Matt Damon, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Nicole Richie et. al.
