Michelle Williams: "I Consider Myself A Mother First And An Actress Second"
| Jan 16, 2012 by LISA ESTALL |

Michelle Williams expressed her gratitude to her daughter Matilda while accepting her award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture on Sunday night. Standing on the stage at the 60th Annual Golden Globe Awards, the My Week With Marilyn star's first sentence was made directly to her 6-year-old.
She said, "I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life."
She added, "I want to say thank you for sending me off to this job every day with a hug and a kiss. I couldn't have done it any other way. It made me so excited to come home at night. And for suffering for six months of bedtime stories, where all the princesses were read aloud in a Marilyn Monroe-sounding voice."
Williams also thanked her friend Busy Philipps, who is Matilda's godmother.

What a sweet, humble speech coming from this helluva actress. And I hope the elephant in the room didn't distract from her moment, but perhaps added to it. Along with Blue Valentine, she also was excellent in Wendy and Lucy and Mammoth. You just can't help but wish the best for her.
