Baby Names Of 10 Canadian Celebrities

Those crazy Canucks!

Celebrities are well known for choosing wacky baby names. We’ve heard everything from Pilot Inspektor, to Moxie Crimefighter, to Apple.

Some of our favorite celebrity parents come from the Great White North, so let’s take a look at 10 celebrities from Canada and their baby name choices.

Multi Juno Award-winner Alanis Morissette and husband Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway welcomed their first child on Christmas Day, 2010. But instead of opting for Jesus, the couple named their son Ever Imre.

How did the Ottawa native choose the moniker? Ever is a Scottish boy’s name that means ‘strong’ while Imre is the middle name of Alanis’ twin brother, musician Wade Morissette.

Soulful singer Sarah McLachlan and ex-husband, drummer Ashwin Sood, welcomed their first daughter India Ann on April 6, 2002. Their second daughter, Taja Summer, arrived June 22, 2007.

Originally from the Maritimes, the Vancouver resident has said she always knew she’d have a daughter named India. No word on how they came up with Taja.

Mike Myers has a mini-me! The Austin Powers star, originally from Ontario, shocked his fans when he and new wife Kelly Tisdale announced the birth of their first child, son Spike, in September 2011.

While no explanation was given for the interesting baby name, many speculate the SNL alum named his boy after the Spike and Mike’s Festival of Animation film series.

Grammy Award-winning singer Céline Dion and husband René Angelil welcomed twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, in October 2010. As it turns out, it took the French Canadian couple a few weeks to name their miracle babies.

After mulling over 15,000 names, Eddy was chosen after Eddy Marnay, who produced Céline’s first five records.

He was like a father to her,” said the singer’s rep. “Eddy is a major influence in both Céline and René’s lives.”

Twin brother Nelson is named in honor of Nelson Mandela, who the couple met while Céline was touring a couple of years ago. “René said that in just the few minutes they were able to spend with him, they were impressed by the human being he is,” her rep revealed.

It was a difficult decision, but in the end the proud parents just followed their hearts. “Céline and René want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men,” her rep stated.

At the age of 51, Canadian rocker Bryan Adams became a father for the first time. The Summer of ’69 singer and personal assistant Alicia Grimaldi welcomed a daughter, Mirabella Bunny, on April 22, 2011.

How did they come up with her interesting middle name?

She arrived like all good Easter bunnies on Easter Friday,” Adams said. “Mother and baby are both well and happy. Thanks in advance for your kind thoughts and wishes.”

Originally from Burnaby, British Columbia, Carrie-Anne Moss has opted to stay as private as possible in Tinseltown. The Matrix star chose not to announce her third pregnancy or her daughter’s birth.

To protect her family’s privacy, Carrie-Anne has revealed only that her older son is named Owen and that he was born at the end of 2003. Her youngest son is believed to be named either Jaden or Brooke. He is said to be born in November 2005.

The kids’ father is Carrie-Anne’s husband, fellow actor Steven Roy.

Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida are rockstar royalty in Canada. Chantal, a native of Winnipeg, and Raine, originally from Ontario, have been married since 1999. They are proud parents to three boys: Rowan, 8, Lucca, 6, and Salvador, 3.

We keep talking baby names, (“tweedy bird,” “flower” and “waggy tail” to name a few) and they love touching my ever-growing baby belly,” Chantal joked when pregnant with Salvador. “They put their beautiful soft feel on my belly in bed, and I hold them on my belly until they feel movement. I don’t really know if they can feel anything to be honest.”

Canadian singer Shania Twain and ex-husband, rock producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, welcomed son Eja D’Angelo on August 12, 2001.

The country superstar, who was originally from Ontario, has spoken out about the impact of her mother and stepfather’s abusive marriage and how her son helped her move on from the devastation of her husband’s affair.

Although her stepfather was abusive, she named Eja after a word from his Native Indian culture.

Burnaby boy, Michael J. Fox, and wife Tracy Pollan are parents to son Sam, 22, 16-year-old twins Schuyler and Aquinnah, and daughter Esmé, 10.

Where did the Back to the Future star get those unique names? Little did they know that a vampire novel (Twilight) would make their youngest daughter’s name a phenomenon!

Also from Burnaby, B.C., crooner Michael Bublé and his new wife, Argentinian actress Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre, are hoping to welcome children one day soon. But don’t expect them to follow in Michael and Tracy’s Twilight-lead!

I think [Luisana] wants me to name the kids after the Twilight characters, which is not going to happen,” Michael said of the future children’s names. “I came up with some hypothetical names and I didn’t like the names, but she came up with…Bella Buble. I swear to god, she kept coming up with these names, and she kept saying, ‘Bella [or] I like Edward.’ And then I realized, I think she’s talking about…Twilight.”

Michael said he “absolutely” wants to have kids someday and has every intention of being a good father. “I think nobody knows until you do it, and apparently when you do it, all of a sudden you just make it right,” he said.
