Grey’s Anatomy’s Shonda Rhimes Welcomes Baby No. 2

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes adopted a daughter named Emerson Pearl through a domestic adoption in February, Us Weekly reports.

Bringing Emerson home to join big sister Harper was a plan long in the works for Shonda, who says her friends and colleagues at Grey’s, Private Practice and her new ABC series, Scandal, found the news a surprise.

“I’ve been writing adoption into story lines on my shows and only a few people close to me knew about my plans,” says Shonda, who adopted daughter Harper in 2002. “I think the response was ‘oh my goodness’ from a lot of people.”

Emerson Pearl – a “Zen baby,” says the proud mom – has a posh nursery, as revealed in these exclusive photos.

Designed by Sandie Bailey and Delores Bond of design firm reVISIONs, Emerson’s pretty in pink digs features crib bedding by Carousel Designs, which Rhimes was able to customize before ordering. The room also features places to sit so mom Rhimes and Emerson can get cozy.

“Emerson is incredibly mellow,” Shonda gushes. “We’re just doing a lot of bonding right now. This is a happy time — I feel so lucky.”

Congratulations to Shonda!
