Cameron Diaz Talks Family & Her Famous Friends

Actress Cameron Diaz covers the May 2012 issue of the UK’s Harper Bazaar magazine, striking a sultry pose in a nude-colored slip dress. In the interview, the What to Expect When You’re Expecting star chats about her closest Hollywood pals (Gwyneth Paltrow makes the list) and shares her thoughts on motherhood.

On having kids: “I’m not sitting there going, ‘Oh my god, when am I going to get married? When am I going to have a baby?'” she says. “I would be remiss if I was living my live wishing I had something other than what I have. If one day, I am blessed with the experience of having a child, I would be overjoyed, but I am not sitting here feeling empty because I haven’t yet, or that I may not.”

On Gwyneth Paltrow: “We became very close after my dad’s death [in April 2008]. She reached out and it was very sweet. We bonded on that,” she says, adding that Gwyneth and her husband Chris Martin are “exceptional people.”

On Colin Firth: “He’s the perfect Englishman. Just enough of the self-effacing to a point that it’s comfortable for other people, but also totally charming and engaging to where he makes you feel special. He’s got that British honesty.”

On British men: “I love [British men’s] sense of humour and the sense of chivalry and charm. It’s something that is innately a part of the culture – it’s not the same in America.”

Honestly, I’m glad that there are women out there that don’t make having children there top priority or don’t want them at all. I’m the same way and when I tell me that I do not want to marry or maybe even have kids they look at me as if I were an alien. Because apparently having a family is all there is to life, who knew.
