Kelsey Grammer’s Car Seat Controversy

Grammer lessons!

While leaving the Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, Kelsey Grammer and wife Kayte Grammer seemed to drive off without strapping their 4-month-old daughter Faith into a car seat. The new mom, 31, appeared to hold their adorable daughter on her lap, which would be a violation of California law.

A rep for the actor, 57, was quick to tell E! News that baby Faith was safely put into a car seat before the family left the airport.

“I am not an attorney, so I cannot [comment] on any legal aspect. I just know that the original footage that aired strongly implied that they left the airport without a car seat, which was not the case,” Kelsey’s rep stated.

“In an attempt to avoid the paparazzi, they exited through the upper level,” he continued. “Kelsey went back in and got the car seat and met them at the car. Did the car drive a few yards without the car seat? Yes. At no time does the video show them leaving the airport with the baby not in the car seat.”

And this isn’t the first time Kelsey’s parenting skills were being questioned.

Last month, the Frasier actor was scrutinized for his decision to bring his newborn daughter to Hugh Hefner’s Playboy mansion Halloween party.

“Kayte is breast-feeding and we do not have a nanny or a trusted baby-sitter at this time, so Faith goes everywhere with us,” he said. “We enjoyed the party with a few of our friends, the baby slept as her ears were covered the entire time and we left shortly after midnight.”

Leave them alone. Celebrities are judged constantly for any perceived infraction they’re supposedly violating. It’s ridiculous that they can’t just say mind your own business but have to keep explaining their actions.

    • Anonymous2

This isn’t a minor infraction. This is against the law and if they got into a car accident, the baby could have been hurt or killed.

Yet…………… still none of your business.

        • Bloopie

None of yours too why are you protecting her? Why are you on this website?

        • Rose

That’s where you’re wrong. When a child’s life is being put at risk, it’s everybody’s business. We’re not talking about a difference in parenting styles here, we’re talking about a potentially life-and-death matter.

          • Anonymous

Did you call the authorities? Did you notify Child Protective Services? No? Then, you just want to spew judgement without ACTUALLY doing anything to prevent injury to this child.

Yeah, I mean, what’s wrong with taking a child to the playboy mansion around sex and alcohol, and then risking its life by not using a car seat? They are so cool!!! Oh please.
What if they crashed? If they are so annoyed about being judged then they should start acting responsible. I personally don’t care what they do in their private life, but a childs safety is too important to be brushed under the carpet. Car seats were made for a reason.

    Faith is so cute!!

  • HDP

Ah – he pulled a “Britney”.

  • Robin

    OH THE HORROR!!!!!

  • NYC Mommy

So they can carry their coffee out with no problem but they need to go back for car seat? I cry BS on this one. In my opinion, they are just doing damage control due to whole bring your baby to Playboy mansion party episode.

Not only was the child not in a car seat but mom was holding on to her with one hand while she sipped her coffee and car drove away. Real safe.

and obviously no SEAT BELT either…

    • NYC Mommy

Additionally since they did not have car seat for car that meant baby most likely traveled on their laps during flight. They have enough money to pay for seat for baby and put her in a car seat during flight.

FYI, many car services will provide an age appropriate car seat if requested so really no excuse except stupiditiy.

If the plane crashes, a carseat isn’t going to help.

        • NYC Mommy

They are still recommended by FAA and they will help alot if there is turbulence which is much more likely than plane crashing anyway.

          • Anonymous

I agree. Car seats and safety belts on airplanes aren’t for crashes, they’re for turbulence.

“At no time does the video show them leaving the airport with the baby not in the car seat.”
Really? I watched the video footage on Perez Hilton, and you can clearly see them driving away from the aiport, Kayte holding Faith in one arm, and a coffee in the other.

I always say I’m lucky I’m not famous. I can’t imagine what it’s like having every single mistake you make broadcast on the news all over the world. It’s crazy. We’ll ALL do dumb things with our kids. Which ones of us are perfect? None.

[If they didn’t put their kid in a car seat, who cares? Let the police deal with it if they think a crime was committed.]

  • NannyP

I have been at the airport with the families I nannied for and the paps hounding us. The car seat always takes time to come out. The car has circled the airport (because you can’t park at the doors) while we wait for the car seat and luggage. I am SURE there is video footage of the car coming back, the seat being put in and the baby being put in the seat, but the paps are not going to release that. It is so sad the judgement that comes down on these parents heads when the whole story isn’t being told, or shown in this case.

    • Lily

You’re a nannie for famous people? ME TOO! I’m actually sat with Brad Pitt and his kids right now… Paps are so annoying!! Ugh.

  • Still laughing

The site “Dlisted” had a pretty funny post on this incident. Let’s just say they were not as “charitable” as Celebritybabyscoop!

  • Lizzie

Faith is so cute!! It kind of looks like a photo op, especially the photo of Kayte kissing the baby in the car with the open door. And if they are saying it is not a big deal because they didn’t leave the airport, what a bout a fender bender?? That could be very dangerous.

  • Marlee

It would have been just as easy for her to wait somewhere private inside the airport with the baby while the carseat was obtained and installed. There was no need for her to get in the car with the baby with no carseat. They had to know the attention this would garner. Besides the attention, it just is not safe.
