Melissa McCarthy & Vivian: Sunday Shoppers

Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy and her daughter Vivian were spotted out doing a little pre-holiday shopping on Sunday (December 9) in Los Angeles, Calif. The 5-year old showed her manners by holding the door open for her famous mama as they entered the store.

The Mike & Molly star – who is married to Ben Falcone and has another daughter Georgette, 2 – wants to ensure that her girls have a positive body image. “Sometimes I wish I were just magically a size six and I never had to give [my weight] a single thought,” she admitted. “But I am weirdly healthy, so I don’t beat myself up about it – it wouldn’t help, and I don’t want to pass that on to my girls.”

Many of the people the 42-year old mama knows – regardless of size – has tried some system or another to manage their weight and body image.

“Even when someone gets to looking like she should be so proud of herself, instead she’s like, ‘I could be another three pounds less; I could be a little taller and have bigger lips.’ Where does it end?”

She added: “You just have to say, ‘It’s pretty damn good. I am right here at the moment and I’m OK with it. I’ve got other things to think about.’”

She may be “weirdly healthy” at 42, but she’s got tiny kids and ought to put more thought into being there for them when she’s 52 or 62. She isn’t somebody who needs to lose five pounds for vanity reasons. She is morbidly obese with a much higher chance of heart attack, stroke, diabetes and joint problems, among other things. Heart attacks, strokes, etc., don’t wait around because you’ve got other things to think about. If she’s not careful, her question of “where does it end?” will be answered with a debilitating stroke.

Policing other people’s bodies is FUN. /sarcasm
She never asked for anyone’s judgement or reassurance over her body. She knows her body better than you do, so lay off.

I really like Melissa McCarthy. I love her work, and I think she’s really pretty. Concerning her health, I think she should do whatever her doctor says. Perhaps she has a disease, perhaps she doesn’t, but it’s really up to her to decide if she’s going to do anything about it.

If she’s going to talk about her weight, which she does on a fairly consistent basis, you don’t think she’d mention it if there were a medical reason for it? Her weight, and future heart attack, is her problem, but she’s couching this whole thing in terms of accepting one’s body for what it is, as if watching what you eat and getting a little exercise is some sort of ridiculous expectation to have of yourself. It’s not.

We get it. You don’t like fat people. Fat people will die younger. You wish they would stop being fat. You don’t need to make the same point over and over again. The fat people of the world heard you and shrugged. Move on.

I respond to people who respond to me. Concern over somebody’s health, and seeming inability to realize it’s even a concern, is not hate anymore than it is hate to point out that drug addicts need to stop doing drugs or they’re going to kill themselves with it. MM is in denial of her problem the same way that somebody like Lindsay Lohan is in denial about hers, and I think that’s sad because she’s a very talented lady with a nice family that needs her.
