Uma Thurman On Having A Baby As “A Grown Up”

Having welcomed her third baby Luna earlier this year, actress Uma Thurman says that being a mom in her 40s is a lot less overwhelming.

“When I was younger and became a mother, I didn’t think I could do anything else; I was completely overwhelmed,” the Kill Bill star, who has kids Maya, 14, and Levon, 10, with her ex-husband Ethan Hawke, tells Gotham magazine. “I felt guilty and afraid about working, guilty and afraid about not working. It’s very overwhelming for a younger person, which is why it’s awesome to get to have another baby when you’re grown up.”

There may be less working mom guilt this time around, but that’s not to say that motherhood is ever easy. Like many mothers, the 42-year-old Kill Bill star says that she’s still trying to find that balance between her career and her kids.

“The question of balance has always been kind of a funny one to me because I don’t think there is any balance. I feel like I’ve never done enough. I do think I’m pretty good at home, but trying to balance my energies outside the home? It’s a challenge; there’s so much more I want to do and can do.”

Uma and her fiance Arki Busson welcomed baby Luna in July.

Good for her. I will say though I get a bit tired of celebrities saying they are better moms now because they are “older”, giving us the rundown of all the “silly” things they did as young moms.
I am 27 with 2 kids, 6 and 3 years old, and I consider myself to be a “grown up”. I think every mother, no matter their age, struggles with the same things. Be it 27 or 42…we all try to find balance in our lives and we feel guilty at times. We are all, presumably, doing our best with our children….at all ages in life.
