Kate Hudson: “We Will Get Married”

Dressed in Balenciaga, Dior, Miu Miu and Nina Ricci, Kate Hudson graces the May cover of Elle U.K. and shares her thoughts on marrying British beau Matthew Bellamy, her sons Ryder, 9, and 21-month-old Bing, and eating clean.

On family life: “I’m a lot less a rock chick and a lot more about being a good mother, a good partner. I’m part of a family. That’s how we were brought up, how I bring my kids up. They are very blessed to live how they do but they are aware of that.”

On getting married: “We will get married. I do think it’s important but we have no plans. He [Ryder] wants a party. For me it’s not the legal part that is important, it’s what it means to the family.” On their romance, she said, “[I]t was all very old-fashioned and proper and we went on lovely dates [after meeting at Coachella music festival]. And two months later I was pregnant.”

On finding out she was pregnant with Bing: “Well, yes [I was shocked], but I also thought: ‘This is going to be interesting. I knew it would take a strong man to deal with it. You know that with a relationship things can go either way when you have a child. When you get pregnant everything changes; you, your body. Everything becomes a big decision.”

On eating clean: “I am now [after Ryder’s birth] a human calorie app. I’ve learnt about nutrition and how it works, and I eat incredibly well now…I don’t believe in diets, I think the whole concept should be banned.”

I totally agree. The sad thing is that her regular figure is nice… These pictures make her look like a cartoon character. It’s sad, but also kind of funny.

I know this is the 21st century and all, but still, pregnant two months after meeting somebody?!

We all have our own “moral standards”, to say so, and I’m most definitely sure the baby was not planned.

True, but they’re still together and seem happy, so.

Why do people like to do things backwards? Have a baby, get engaged, maybe get married. Like the old saying goes, why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free.

Should she have had an abortion?

Backwards? That’s subjective. It’s not as if it were a law, written down in the law of the world book that says “you shall get engaged, get married, get pregnant”. Especially considering that nowadays, after the “get married” or “get pregnant” comes “get divorced”. Then what’s the point? Just to say that you’ve been/were married? Please, marriage isn’t the best thing after sliced bread.

News flash – people have been getting pregnant before getting married for years. They just rushed down the aisle as soon as they found out about the baby and pretended like it was a honeymoon child. At least nowadays, more people are honest about getting pregnant before marriage.

My personal opinion? If it doesn’t bother them, it shouldn’t bother other people. It really doesn’t affect anyone else’s life.

I doubt the 21 month old is quite aware of how ‘blessed’ he is.

Lizzie – there’s something call BIRTH CONTROL. Have you ever heard of it? Get back into your spaceship.
