Are controversial couple LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian ready to have kids of their own?
“We talk about having kids all the time and I would love to, but it’s gonna be a second,” LeAnn tells Us Weekly. “I’m still young and fertile — it’s all good!”
“We have a lot on our plates,” the singer, 30, tells PEOPLE of home life with her husband and his children Mason, 9, and Jake, 6, who live with the couple part-time. “But whenever I talk about kids, I’m like, ‘Let’s have one!’ I have a lot of work to do now but I’m totally ready if it happens.”
The Blue singer predicts that her stepsons will be “a little older” before becoming big brothers.
“I was just with the kids for the last two days taking care of them on my own, and trust me . . . I have a newfound respect for working moms who do it all by themselves,” she admits. “It was my birth control for a little bit — so overwhelming!”
But don’t expect them to wait too long. “It took my mom 12 years to have me. I hope I don’t have that [issue] but if I do, then a surrogate is something I’ve thought about,” she says. “Eddie and I have also talked about adopting. My capacity to love a child doesn’t stop at my own eggs, obviously!”
The tight-knit brothers are “really active,” LeAnn shares, so most afternoons are spent hanging out in the backyard playing “whatever they’re dreaming up at that moment.”
“The little one has a vivid imagination, so we’re usually playing swords and shooting people with imaginary guns. Mason is turning 10 and he’s definitely got that kind of pre-teen thing going on, which is so crazy because I’ve known him since he was 6,” the Grammy winner says. “They ride dirt bikes now and quads. I grew up in Mississippi, so I’ve ridden quads my whole life, since I was like 2-years-old. So that’s kind of like our family thing to do now. Everybody has either a dirt bike or a little quad and we go riding around the neighborhood.”
And she doesn’t mind being outnumbered by all the males in the house.
“It’s fun to be around boys,” says the singer, whose new album Spitfire is out June 4. “You get to do things that I didn’t necessarily get to do and haven’t gotten to do in a long time. With two boys around, I usually don’t get out of shorts and a T-shirt because we’re rolling around most of the time and jumping on a trampoline. I love it!”
That being said, LeAnn says, “Testosterone is all around here so I need a little girl!”
In terms of their highly-publicized affair, LeAnn admits,”I felt like my life was falling apart,” she says. “But now I feel settled. I’m proud of our great family. Eddie is an amazing father and I love my stepsons.”
