The Fresh Prince of Bel Air alum Alfonso Ribeiro and wife Angela celebrated their baby shower on Sunday, September 29. In preparation for their surprise delivery, the couple enjoyed an afternoon of fun games, and gifts from friends such as Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
“It was a couple’s shower hosted by our dear friend Essence Atkins,” Alfonso shares with Celebrity Baby Scoop. “We had a great time with many of our close friends.”
He adds: “It was fun seeing everyone’s predictions on the ‘baby gender pool’ where all of the guests guessed the gender, birthdate, weight and height.”
The expectant parents received some lovely gifts at the afternoon soiree.
“Since we’re both fans of the BabyBjorn line, we were excited to receive a lot of their products,” he shares. “We got the cradle, carrier, bouncer and a few other items.”
And it sounds like their A-list pals got into the spirit of giving.
“Angela gets very excited over the onesies and clothes,” Alfonso says of his wife. “Will [Smith] and Jada [Pinkett Smith] included some really nice baby outfits with their gifts that she loves, and her friends got some onesies with logos of our favorite sports teams. She’s also excited about all of the ‘Northwestern Wildcats’ baby clothes, her alma mater.”
In preparation for their baby, the actor, 42, says they’ve been keeping busy.
“We’ve gone to a few classes at the hospital, and both of us are reading the book The Happiest Baby On The Block,” Alfonso says. “I painted the nursery last week, got the car seat, got the hospital bag packed, and have our CORD: USE cord blood bank kit ready.”
As for cord blood banking, Alfonso says it’s been quite an education.
“I didn’t know much at all about storing the umbilical cord beforehand, but after learning more about it and how it can treat over 70 life-threatening diseases, there was no way I wasn’t going to do it for my child,” he shares. “We researched the various companies that do the cord blood banking and felt CORD: USE was by far the best.”
For the upcoming birth, Alfonso says his wife is ”more excited and anxious than anything,” he shares. “She is aiming for a natural birth, but she isn’t putting pressure on herself,” he adds. “If she ends up changing her mind and wants the epidural, she’ll do it. As for me, I’m just trying to help and support her as best I can.”
And they’re staying strong on having a surprise delivery.
“We still don’t know the gender as we decided to hold out and be surprised,” Alfonso shares. “One thing we know is that it’s a very active baby. He or she has been kicking and punching around the clock. It never gets old to see the little feet imprinted on the belly during the kicking episodes.”
