Talk show queen Kathie Lee Gifford has launched her new PodcastOne show, Kathie Lee and Company. The TV host says, “I’d always thought I might someday have my own radio show and that’s what this feels like.”
Kathie Lee opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about her kids – Cody, 23, and Cassidy, 20 – her lifelong friendship with former host Regis Philbin, and the “extraordinarily difficult” challenge of ‘having it all.’
CBS: You recently launched your new PodcastOne show, Kathie Lee and Company. What inspired you to create it?
KLG: “I’d always thought I might someday have my own radio show and that’s what this feels like. I love having so much more time to talk with guests compared that the time on a TV show. It’s very relaxed and very personal, and I’m loving it.”
CBS: The first guest on your show was your former Live with Regis and Kathie Lee co-host Regis Philbin. Was it fun to reconnect with him in this way?
KLG: “Regis and I have remained very close friends since I left our show 13 years ago. Frank and I see Regis and Joy more now than ever socially. We always just pick up right where we left off. He’s one of my favorite people in the world.”
CBS: Which other celebrities would you like to have on the show?
KLG: “Joan Rivers, Tim Conway, Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews; many of the iconic legendary performers that I’m blessed to call my friends. They’re the real deal.”
CBS: You’re also the co-host of the fourth hour of the Today show with Hoda Kotb. It’s been a great success! Why do you think you and Hoda compliment each other so well?
KLG: “The same reason as with Regis — we love one another, have tremendous respect for one another, and we laugh our butts off. The secret to our success is a 3 letter word: FUN.”
CBS: You’re an accomplished television host, actress, singer, playwright, songwriter and author. Are there any other ventures on your bucket list?
KLG: “I have several screenplays I’d like to see made into film. It’s a tremendous challenge.”
CBS: Tell us about your two children, Cassidy and Cody. Are either of them like you or Frank personality wise?
KLG: “Both our kids have aspects of the 2 of us but they’re completely original human beings. I knew I’d love my kids, but I had no idea how much I’d end of liking them.”
CBS: If we ask them what kind of a mom you are, what would they tell us?
KLG: “Perfect! Not!! They’d say it’s never dull.”
CBS: Do you think it’s possible to “have it all” — a successful career as well as a strong marriage and family unit?
KLG: “I believe it is possible, but it’s an extraordinarily difficult thing to achieve. You have to marry the right person and have to be the kind of parent your kids want to be with. I’m still married and the kids still keep coming home. Not that I’ve done everything right—I’ve been very blessed!”
