Gisele Bündchen Shares Breastfeeding Photo

Model mom Gisele Bündchen shares a photo breastfeeding her 1-year-old daughter Vivian via Instagram.

“What would I do without this beauty squad after the 15 hours flying and only 3 hours of sleep #multitasking #gettingready,” the supermodel captioned the above image Tuesday morning.

The Brazilian beauty is no stranger to extended breastfeeding.

Just months after welcoming her first child Benjamin, Gisele made headlines with a controversial statement about making breastfeeding mandatory for all new moms.

“I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months,” she said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

In a follow-up statement released on her blog, Gisele clarified her thoughts about breastfeeding and the impact caused by her comment:

“My intention in making a comment about the importance of breastfeeding has nothing to do with the law. It comes from my passion and beliefs about children. Becoming a new mom has brought a lot of questions, I feel like I am in a constant search for answers on what might be the best for my child. It’s unfortunate that in an interview sometimes things can seem so black and white. I am sure if I would just be sitting talking about my experiences with other mothers, we would just be sharing opinions. I understand that everyone has their own experience and opinions and I am not here to judge. I believe that bringing a life into this world is the single most important thing a person can undertake and it can also be the most challenging. I think as mothers we are all just trying our best.”

I think it is great that she is open to the world about breastfeeding after infancy. My son is 12 months and we still nurse. Though I don’t agree with her comments; she is helping spread awareness for Moms who breastfeed and in my opinion this shows she’s not ashamed and that no one else should feel ashamed about breastfeeding their baby.

    • chelsea

Kim – you hit the nail on the head. No one should be ashamed of breastfeeding!!!

      • NYC Mommy

I agree and I also feel no one should be ASHAMED for NOT breastfeeding.every mother is different. I breastfeed all three of my kids but only for a couple months each time. (no more than 4 months) My sister breastfeed her daughter until she was over 2 and my sister in law did not breastfeed at all. everyone has their own prefence and no one should be forced to breastfeed or judged because they do or dont.

  • Heather

    Love it!

  • eliz1

I normally don’t comment on her b/c i usually do like her/follow her – but holy crap this picture is effing ridiculous! Nothing wrong with her feeding her daughter but seriously- 3 people doing 3 different things to her while she looks as blissful as ever? GIMME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Heather

She’s posing that way because she’s posing for a picture!!!! And yes, that’s how celebrities get ready, with several people doing different parts all at once.

    • Robin

Is her job. That is how its done.

  • Anonymous

I agree with you eliz1 – this picture is absolutely ridiculous. But look who it’s coming from. Makeup, hair, nails and breastfeeding? Seriously? She’s an idiot.

  • meghan

Sitting while everyone else works around you is not exactly multitasking.

    • Kristine

Meghan: Your comment ROCKS!!!!!! Well said!!!!

    • ghlhf

Shes getting ready to do a launch. Its not some random getting pampered photo though. Shes launching her lingerie line brazil. Personally find it awesome she takes her kids everywhere with her and doesn’t expect others to raise them. Very hands on.

      • meghan

That doesn’t make it multitasking though. That was the hashtag. Multitasking is nursing on one arm while you do your makeup and hair with the other.

        • eva

what about being at work and nursing her daughter? Looks for me as multitasking.

    • Lila

      Love that comment :))

    • Amanda

She’s making a great point actually, that after ONE year, with her busy schedule and lifestyle, she is still able to breastfeed her baby, AND proud to do so….the only thing ridiculous about this is all of the negative comments….I have an 11 month old and breastfeeding is very hard and time consuming, but also rewarding….As a mother who also works full time and goes to school, I can’t tell you how many days my hair has stayed in a bun, and I can count on ONE hand how many times I’ve painted my nails since my son has been born because I’m tending to his needs…Soo think outside the box….for her lifestyle, this is multitasking….her team would be primping her even without the baby in her arms! I think this is awesome!

  • kjo

So over the top and cheesy, ridiculously funny!

  • Msmia

Not sure what is so offensive? Tell me ladies, wouldn’t we all love a “beauty squad” getting us ready in the morning?? C’mon, amiright?

  • Pippa

  • Pippa

That three hours of sleep looks rough on you, Giselle. If that is what you look like after three hours of sleep, we’re all doomed! lol.

  • kay

someone needs to start a Tumblr dedicated to the smug, irritating, ridiculous things Gisele says or would say

  • Sarah

I don’t know exactly what it is, but something about her makes me want to slap her across the face.

    • Robin

Probably because she is a beautiful, rich supermodel with a beautiful family and it makes you feel inferior and jealous.

      • Sarah

Pretty sure it more has something to do with her holier-than-thou attitude.

      • kay

hm, I guess that’s one way of looking at it Robin, although I feel more annoyed than jealous. Gisele says alot of self-satisfied things about how she breastfeeds, has a natural home birth, etc (all wonderful things, mind you) but that seem like she’s trying to hold it over moms who cannot or will not breastfeed, have natural births (or any kind of biological birth at all) or “multi-task”. Her job entitles her to pamper herself, which I understand — her job is not to lecture women and mothers on how she’s doing it so much better than everyone else.

        • Anonymous

Enough already. No one, including this woman, is saying ANYTHING to any mother who CAN’T breastfeed. Stop it already.

        • Jen

Umm…ALL births are biological. Doesn’t matter whether the baby is pushed out or cut out.

  • Jj

This woman is annoying. Just when I though I couldn’t dislike her any more!

  • Arielle

  • eva

I dont know what is so irritating, annoying or ridiculous about her words. This is how models work. Getting ready for launches, shows and editorials there is always few people doing different things at the same moment.
I think it is amazing she still breastfeed Vivian despite her travels due to her job.

  • Paige

Where is the pic of her breastfeeding her husband?? he is the biggest cry baby of all 🙂

  • mama p

She is not sitting there doing nothing- she is breastfeeding her baby. I can see how her pictures and comments rub people the wrong way. But I find her beautiful and inspiring. Haters gonna hate.

  • Violet

You don’t live in her world. You don’t realize this is how they get ready. One is a manicurist. One is a hairdresser. One is a makeup artist. She is doing a launch and needs to look her best. Your comments sound ignorant and jealous.

  • Jen

This woman is pretty self absorbed, in my opinion. But I guess being the biggest paid supermodel in the world would go to anyone’s head.

    • Anon

      What exactly makes her “self-absorbed”?

      • Annie

The fact that she is complaining to all of her instagram followers (aka normal women) about flying (first class), while getting pampered by 3 different people and being able to stay with her baby while at work.

        • Amanda

How is she complaining? and define “normal women”… If you had her status or job i’m sure you’d be happy to fly first class….Models get pampered….That is not news to anyone!

        • eva

Please write a comment where you would inform people that you just made a flight States-Brazil with your one year old daughter, got three hours of sleep and now you have (probably the most) two hours to do manicure, pedicure, hair and make up, nurse your child, get dressed and launch a product being funny and cute and professional. Of course you need to look fabulous cause after all if you dont the client will tell you “bye bye”.
Ah and please write it in a way so we all (aka normal women) dont get impression you complain.

        • Anon

You heard a complaint in what she said? You might be the only one……..

          • eva

I didnt, Annie did. that’s why I asked her to write better comment in a way we woudnt think Gisele complains.

  • winnie

Breastfeeding a 1 yr old is a piece of cake – by that point you and the baby are on auto-pilot. International flights with a 1 yr old? Then having to turn up to work? Now I’m impressed (though it is possible that a nanny looked after the baby on the flight and then I’m a lot less impressed). But NONE of that speaks to why this photo is insufferable. This photo is insufferable because she KNOWS she looks like this incredible model/earth mother/business woman that can do it all effortlessly and perfectly. And she is posting it so that we can all see her being perfect and rush out and buy her lingerie/rubber flip-flops and assorted tat. Go away gisele – i know you’re not perfect, you know you’re not perfect and I prefer haviannas to be honest.

  • djb

I still don’t understand all the hate. Oh well, Go Giselle!! 🙂

  • Anonymous

Sarah – I want to slap her across the face too. And I don’t find her attractive AT ALL. She has a long horse face. Tom Brady is nothing to look at either.

    • Anonymous

It’s disgusting seeing women calling other women unattractive as if that alone is a reason to dislike or, in this case, SLAP someone. Who cares if you don’t find her and her husband easy on the eyes? I’m sure plenty of people don’t find you very attractive – just as I’m sure plenty of people do. If you dislike her, fine. But for god’s sake, find a better reason and USE it.

Seriously, how much more attention does she need… breastfeeding her baby antic, while she’s getting all done up… WHO CARES! Attention Whore!

So Tacky and Pretentious.. We get it, you’re all for breastfeeding out in the open and you are a freaken Model…. Good for you! Can you please keep somethings private please??? Pinche care de caballo!!!!!

  • I breastfed my son until he was 8 months old and honestly do not know how I did it for so long, because I had to go back to work when he was 3 months and when I think of pumping in the office bathroom while my boss was screaming for me …did not look anything like this photo…some people just have it so easy and to complain about a 15 hour flight and 3 hours of sleep is nothing compare to what other women have to go through. So sorry Gisele, but cannot feel bad for you!

    • Lou

Sorry LuLu i just down arrowed you, meant to do the opposite! Couldn’t agree more x

  • Lou

I’m all for breastfeeding and as part of my job promote it all day long so kudos to her.7
I also appreciate that she’s getting ready to work and has just been on a long flight etc, and of course i would love a team to help me get ready every day…i do, however, find this picture a little smug.
She isn’t doing anything anyone else doesn’t do by breastfeeding, and this comes across to me that she’s trying to make out she’s multitasking (she isn’t), and that’s what offends me. Can’t speak for everyone else but i’m certainly no hater and this is my opinion.
Beautiful woman though, i wish i could look that fantastic on 3 hours sleep!

    • Anonymous

How many women do you know that even would TRY breastfeeding with someone working on their hair, another on their nails and another on their makeup.

      Almost none, that’s how many.

      • Lou

That’s a bit of a ridiculous statement, and is completely irrelevant. Not that many people have that many people carrying out their tasks for them either so couldn’t possibly compare.
If i was to be picky i would have commented on the fumes etc that the baby might be breathing in by being around hair products while they’re being sprayed and nail varnish etc, let alone the risk if the stylist were to drop the tongs…But i didn’t because i was trying to keep my comment as positive as possible. Seriously, wtf.

  • natalia

Love it. Those that mock are just jealous. A beautiful lady feeding her own child as nature intended . She could have so easily asked an assistant to shove a bottle in Viviand mouth….but no she wants the best for her child. I know of so many mothers who didnt even try breastfeeding purely for vanity reasons and they didnt want their child near their breast!! Now thats ridiculous…not this picture. Breast were made firstly to feed our young and secondly for men to perve at. I agree some women simply cant breastfeed…..or alot try but it is too hard..but at least they tried.
Love Giselle for sharing this. U go girl . Oh n yes I would love a pamper team such as herslucky lady xxx

  • I really like Gisele! I feel she was just showing that she is like any other mother — even though her job is one which requires primping, she is a mother first. Look at other pictures she has posted — all natural, no makeup, and with her husband and children. I feel that so many comments on this are jealousy based.

  • Calinda

There are a lot of comments on here about her first-class international flights and sitting down getting ‘pampered’, I just wanted to pipe in on that front. While all of that sounds glamorous, remember that she does it all the time. I could be wrong, but I can only imagine that after a few hundred (thousand, maybe..?) photo shoots, sitting still for a couple hours while a team of people tugs you in three different directions doesn’t feel much like being ‘pampered’ anymore. Besides, if any one of us ‘normal women’ got our hair, nails and face done, it probably wouldn’t look anything like this. We’d go get a mani-pedi in an adjustable massage chair, THEN go tell our stylist exactly what we wanted for our hair, THEN maybe hit the Nordstrom counter for a makeup test run. We wouldn’t be sitting in a little swivel chair getting it all done at once. Like I said, to those of us who don’t have a beauty squad, this LOOKS glamorous – but for someone who does it all the time, it’s just work. It’s another day in the office chair.

My mother breast fed 8 but she had modesty and covered her self . There is no reason to set there with her tit hanging out personally I find it offensive, I don’t want to see her tits or anyone else’s .
