Nicole Kidman: We Take The Girls Everywhere

Dressed in Dior, Nicole Kidman covers the March issue of InStyle and opens up about family life with husband Keith Urban and their two daughters: Sunday, 5, and Faith, 3.

On the family joining Keith on tour: “That’s basically how I’ve seen most of America, on that bus. Keith and I are both gypsies at heart. We can make our home wherever we are. The girls are like that too now, so we take them everywhere.”

On time away from Keith: “For every single night he’s away, he leaves me a love letter. Every single night of our relationship. It keeps us close.”

On embracing her curly hair: “I almost never straighten it anymore. It’s taken me 40-something years, but I embrace the curl. My littlest daughter has the same hair. She likes it when my hair is curly, so I wear it for her.”

On taking on daunting roles: “I always try to push through fear. I won’t be crippled by it. People say, ‘Oh you take such risks,’ or ‘You’re brave.’ And I’m like ‘Well, if you only knew – inside I’m really frightened!’ But the way people navigate pain and fear is fascinating.”

On what drives her: “I suppose what drives me now is a strong inner life. Keith says I’m the one who thinks and feels and analyzes things. I don’t hide from what they call the ‘the shadow side.’ I feel very connected to life and to the world when I’m exploring the human psyche through a role.”
