Zoe Saldana: My Kids Will Learn To Speak Spanish

Mom-to-be Zoe Saldana graces the cover of Cosmopolitan for Latinas‘ September issue. While she remains mum on her pregnancy news, the Guardians of the Galaxy star, 36, shares her plans to have a multilingual brood with husband Marco Perego, an Italian artist.

On teaching her children other languages: “Of course [our children] will speak the languages that we speak; my sisters and I grew up learning French and speaking English and Spanish, and because of that, we’re able to understand Italian and Portuguese. But I’m going to have to make a conscious effort to speak Spanish to my children, because I speak Spanglish.”

On what she finds attractive in a partner: “I don’t want a man who worships me: Stay away from those. Worshipping doesn’t count as really seeing me. I like men who work with women, are challenged by women, learn from women.”

On marrying husband Marco Perego“At 35, you make better choices in men or partners, divorce people and situations that are not right for you, and learn to say ‘no’ with a smile.”

She doesn’t look at all Latina. I think there has been a mistake.

Good for her. I spoke Spanish as a toddler but only a few words really and after that, nada. Its embarrassing really. The weird thing is, I’m so not alone. So many Latino Americans do not know anything BUT English. Others would be surprised how many (I’m Afro-Latina via Cuba) who speak NO Spanish! Even famous people like Eric Estrada or Selena didn’t know the language. Selena had to be taught to sing her own songs in the language and Estrada had it put In through an earpiece when he was on the novella’s lol. Good for Zoe because it IS the world we now live in.
