Soleil Moon Frye Offers Tips To Get In The Back-to-School Groove

Just in time for school to start, Soleil Moon Frye stocked up for everything she needed for the school year at Target, with her two girls Poet, 8, and Jagger, 6.

As Target’s Mommy Ambassador, Soleil spoke to Celebrity Baby Scoop about all things back to school, including: must-have school supplies, latest fashion tips for kids of all ages, first day of school traditions and ways to get your family in the back-to-school groove.

CBS: Back to school shopping can be so expensive. As Target’s Mommy Ambassador, what cost saving tips can you offer parents?

SMF: “I love shopping at Target because it has the back-to-school essentials for any budget. Parents can receive five percent off their purchase when they shop with their Target REDcard. Parents can also use Cartwheel, Target’s digital savings app, to choose from hundreds of in-store offers.”

CBS: Being fashionable is important to kids as they go back to school. What are the hippest fashions for the back to school season?

SMF: “My daughters and I just made a Target trip to get everything on our list. We loved picking out colorful school supplies and stylish outfits together. This year, the girls were all about expressing themselves and found items for their first day of school outfits! Poet’s favorite is the Cherokee Floral Lace Dress ($19.99) while Jagger loves the Cherokee Leggings ($14.99).”

CBS: What are the must-have items for kids this year?

SMF: “Our favorite back-to-school must-haves are notebooks decked out with online memes ($2.50 each), backpacks ($29.99 each), lunch boxes ($12.99 each) and water bottles ($12.99 each). I am also a fan of the Yoobi school supplies. Not only are the products bright and colorful, but my girls love the fact that they help kids in need!”

CBS: Transitioning from fluid summer schedules to a more rigid school schedule can be tough for kids, how do you help your kids transition? Does your family have any end of summer traditions?

SMF: “We try and keep a schedule at the end of the summer by going to bed at a decent hour and keeping an afternoon routine. It is a balance between having fun and making the transition comfortable for them. I find that feeling prepared is a big help and having them be a part of the process of getting ready for the start of the school year is important.”

CBS: How much fun has it been for Poet (8) and Jagger (6) to be a part of the Target Ambassador program? They seem to be naturals in front of the camera; do they have an interest in modeling or working in commercials?

SMF: “As Target’s Mommy Ambassador, I love sharing my own back-to-school experiences with families and offering tips for preparing for the school year ahead. Integrating my family into my work has been an added bonus. The girls love coming to events with me and, of course, shopping at Target. We all feel so lucky and truly grateful for the experience. Poet and Jagger are very much kids, but they do love being in front of the camera. They have huge hearts and are very thankful for all of the fun they get to have working with such a terrific brand. We are a family that spends hours in the aisle of Target on our own, so it is a very authentic fit.”

CBS: You have a new son, Lyric, how is raising a son different than raising daughters? How have the girls adjusted to have a boy in the house?

SMF: “It is amazing. It’s as if Lyric has three moms because we are all doting on him throughout the day. He loves the attention and we all love giving it to him. My girls are my little helpers and they are incredible.”

CBS: Living a healthy lifestyle is all over the media these days, what tips can you give new moms for getting their pre-pregnancy figure back? What is the favorite part of your daily

SMF: “Eating healthy is important for my whole family, not just me! We try to get everyone involved in the cooking process, even at a young age. Because of this, my family has a great appreciation for all kinds of foods.”

CBS: New mom’s struggle with sleep deprivation, how do you manage to get enough rest? Do you have any sleep training tips you’d like to share with new moms?

SMF: “I’m trying my best. I have a newfound respect for rest. I love finding a few minutes in the day to just relax and rest. It’s not sleep, but it’s relaxing my mind.”
