Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo and her 5-year-old daughter Stella cover the November 2014 issue of Architectural Digest to give readers a glimpse inside their 16,000 square-foot home, located in Los Feliz.
Joined by husband Chris Ivery, the actress also shares several photos of their California home, including the nursery of their newborn daughter Sienna May.
Although home was originally built in the 1930s, when Pompeo, 44, and her husband Chris Ivery purchased the property in 2009 it required updates.
“Everything has been done before, so the question becomes, ‘How do you take something classic and make it fresh for a new generation?’ ” she says.
Sienna’s nursery was brightened with colorful headdresses from Nickey Kehoe, which complemented the fuchsia crib. The cozy room also boasts a child-sized chair from Pierre Jeanneret and a carpet from the Rug Company.
The actress went on to reveal her elder daughter’s colorful sleep space.
Showcasing mix-and-match patterns, Stella’s room features bean bags, an ottoman and matching bedding all from Missoni Home. Other features include oversized pillows with fabric from Stark, a few plush teddys, and a chevron-print lantern hanging from the ceiling.
“When something is so respected, you can turn it into something else, so that you are looking at it anew,” the mom-of-two says. “Reinvention is invention.”
In a Thursday appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Pompeo opened up about her newborn daughter.
“She was born two months ago,” she revealed.
The actress went on to talk about welcoming her second daughter via gestational carrier.
“This is an incredible thing to do with your life, to give the gift of carrying someone’s child, so I am forever grateful and feel very blessed and grateful to her—she who will remain anonymous,” Pompeo said. “I was there with her when they inseminated her and we held hands. I looked into the microscope and I saw the embryo, I saw the baby, and they put it in a thingy and they inseminated her. And then we held hands and we prayed, we talked to God, and if she was meant to be. He said he was going to try to help us out and now we have a gorgeous baby girl.”
