Donald Trump: My Kids “Get How Important This Is”

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump sits down with PEOPLE at Trump Tower and opens up about family life with wife Melania and their 9-year-old son Barron. The Apprentice star, 69, is also dad to Donald Jr., 37, Ivanka, 33, and Eric, 31, with his ex wife Ivana; Tiffany, 21, with ex wife Marla Maples; and grandfather to seven (daughter Ivanka’s current pregnancy will make it eight).

On his hopes to be the president: “When you see you’re number one in every poll that makes any criticism go away very quickly. If I’m able to get the nomination, my polling looks very good against Hillary or whoever it may be. I think I’ll win.”

On the enormous cost of running a campaign (Obama’s cost an estimated $1 billion in 2012): “I’m very liquid. I can spend whatever I want. It’s all Trump, all the time on television. So far, I’m way under budget.”

On spending less time with his family during the campaign: “I just don’t have the time that I would love to spend with my children and my wife. I see less of my grandchildren than I might like. But they get how important this is.”

On what he tells Barron about life in the White House:  “It’s a little scary for Barron. He thinks he is going to be taken away from friends. But I tell him if this happens, Daddy will help people, and can help children like him, and that makes him happy.”

Melania, on raising their son: “My husband is traveling all the time. Barron needs somebody as a parent, so I am with him all the time.”

Melania, on her husband wanting to be president: “[I’m] not ready to get political yet. He is who he is. Even if you give him advice, he will maybe take it in, but then he will do it the way he wants to do it. You cannot change a person. Let them be. Let them be the way they are.”

god, sounds miserable to be married to him… and how the heck would he help kids?? I can’t even imagine how…lol

Anyway, people say gold diggers are lazy, but I wouldn’t want that job for anything. Imagine dealing with his personality let alone, erm, producing a child (let’s say) with him! His wives are some of the hardest working people around!
