Ditching her preferred playground wear - "a baseball hat and jeans," she says - actress Bridget Moynahan is the picture of elegance on the cover of the new Playground magazine. In the issue, the single mom models some more holiday fashions and dishes on her favorite New York outings with her 3-year-old son Jack.

On raising Jack in NYC: "I love living in New York City and raising my son here because every day is a new adventure. From all the amazing parks, to the museums - even taking a subway ride is an adventure.... New York City is brilliant when it comes to activities for kids. There are a million parks to investigate. The Children’s Museum is fantastic. Natural History Museum is always a good go-to for kids."

A book lover herself, Bridget Moynahan says she's passing on her love of literature to her son Jack, 3 next month.

"I have pictures of him looking at books and flash cards when he's just sitting up. I have one picture where I was reading a book on Buddha and Buddhism and his face is in there, looking at the words," Bridget boasts to USA Today.

"We went through four books," she adds of story time the night before. "He's known his numbers and alphabet for some time now, and it's clearly from reading, unless he's going to accounting school on the side."

The movie star mom had her son with her as she worked on her latest film Ramona & Beezus, based on the wildly popular series of books by author Beverly Cleary.

"Jack was on set every day," says the movie's director Elizabeth Allen. "She'd dash off whenever she could. She was all warmth and kindness with him."

Actress Bridget Moynahan is gorgeous on the cover of the new issue of Self magazine. In the interview, the Ramona & Beezus star opens up about her life as a single mom - she has 2 1/2-year-old son Jack with her ex Tom Brady - and explains why finding "Mr. Right" isn't always easy.

When it comes to the topic of motherhood, Bridget, 39, aims to set the record straight.

"Being a mom, whether single or not, is not easy! Certain individuals and the press present motherhood as if it's easy or painless, and that's irresponsible," she says. "Girls see pictures in magazines of mothers with fancy baby bags and think it looks glamorous, and that's not necessarily the case. I'm not complaining about anything in my life - it's fantastic. My son is so well adjusted. He has two parents who live in different homes, and that's what he knows. Having a child didn't hold me back from a career or a love life or traveling; it has enhanced my life."

Still pregnant when she and Tom broke up, Bridget's love life soon became the topic of tabloid fodder. Still, she's remained largely mum on the split ("My attitude was to take the high road," she explains) and tries her best to keep her son Jack out of the spotlight as well.
