John Travolta Says Helping Others Eases Pain Of Son's Death

When Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake last month a long line of celebrities opened up their wallets and offered their services - including John Travolta, who used his private jet to fly supplies and doctors down to help assist in the aid effort. Still grieving the tragic death of his 16-year-old son Jett last year, the Get Shorty star says that helping others is a way to ease his own pain.
"Absolutely. I think help is probably the biggest button on the planet. People need to help each other," John tells the Associated Press. "They want to feel like they can help and when you have the opportunity I think most people do help and I had this rare, rare privilege to have this big, empty plane in my backyard and I filled it with supplies and doctors and it was an awesome opportunity."
John Travolta & Ella Bleu's Shopping Spree

John Travolta splurged on his daughter, Ella Bleu, during a recent shopping spree at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, In Touch reports.
The Travolta family have remained private since the tragic death of their son and brother, Jett, last January. John recently discussed their decision to go public since his death.
On November 3, John, 55, treated his adorable 9-year-old to a father-daughter shopping spree, racking up more than $12,000 in purchases.
They were so adorable together,” a witness says. “Ella was picking out clothes and stuffed animals, and John even bought her a necklace from the fine jewelry department. Of course, people noticed him, but he didn’t seem to care, because he was only concerned about making her happy.”
Ella - who recently made her film debut in dad’s new movie, Old Dogs, in which her mother, Kelly Preston, also stars - seemed to enjoy the outing. “She seemed to be a real daddy’s girl,” says the witness. “It was clear that she adored him.”

John Travolta: We're Working As A Family To Heal
John Travolta and Kelly Preston have broken their silence since the death of 16-year-old son Jett earlier this year, USA Today reports.
In his first interview addressing Jett's death, Travolta says that he and Kelly, along with their 9-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu, are far from being healed. But almost daily religious counseling sessions seems to be helping. "We've been working very hard every day as a family to heal. We have our own way of doing it, and it has been helping."
Travolta says he has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends, fans and Hollywood colleagues. "You need your friends a lot in times like that," the 55-year-old Pulp Fiction star says.
Travolta is opening up now in order to focus on Ella Bleu's feature-film debut in Old Dogs - which Kelly and John also star - hitting theaters November 25.
We decided it was OK to come out and promote, to introduce her to the world and to give her a beautiful future in film," Travolta says. Preston adds the "outpouring of love from, really, worldwide has been extraordinary. It's been our friends, our family, our church. We partake in spiritual counseling pretty much daily. It's a tricky thing," she says. "Sometimes, something that's right for the moment is not right the next day. Being with people who are important to you, being with people that you love, I think that's what has primarily helped us the most. Sometimes, being alone, too."
John Travolta: "My Son Was Autistic"

In the extortion trial that started this week in the Bahamas involving the death of his 16-year-old son Jett, PEOPLE reports that John Travolta publicly stated for the first time that his son had autism:
My son was autistic and he suffered from seizure disorder every 5 to 10 days," Travolta told the court. "He would suffer a seizure that would last 45 seconds to a minute and sleep for 12 hours."
With wife Kelly Preston in the courtroom supporting him, John also revealed to the nine-person jury how he attempted to save Jett’s life after the nanny woke him up at around 10:15 AM on Jan. 2 to tell him Jett was unconscious. John explained that he went downstairs and saw his son on the ground with one of his caretakers doing chest compressions.
The 55-year-old Golden Globe-winning actor went on to testify that he performed CPR on Jett, which ultimately did not save his life.
John Travolta Set To Testify In Extortion Trial

John Travolta will be testifying on behalf of the prosecution in an extortion trial involving the death of his son Jett. The trial is set to begin next week in the Bahamas according to TMZ.com.
Tarino Lightbourne, a paramedic who responded to the call for help after Jett's seizure, and Pleasant Bridgewater, a former Bahamian senator, face charges of conspiring to extort $25 million from Travolta. They were threatening to go public with a document that authorized paramedics to take 16-year-old Jett to the hospital after his seizure.
John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston are reportedly outraged by the alleged extortion plot which authorities say was concocted shortly after Jett's death.
The family has been keeping very private since the terrible tragedy and had not been seen until last Saturday (September 12) when John, Kelly and Ella promoted their Disney film Old Dogs.
