Kate Winslet Picks Up Kids From School

Kate Winslet Picks Up Kids From School

Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet was spotted picking up her two children Mia Honey, 9, and Joe Alfie, 5 1/2, from school in New York City on Tuesday (November 10).

The 34-year-old Titanic star says that she avoids luxuries like nannies doing the school pick up and chefs making the meals because she doesn't want her kids to get used to a "movie star existence."

I don't have the perfect life. There are things I could implement within my life that would probably make it easier. But I deliberately don't do it because if I did, I would be living that movie star existence that I really try and resist."

Kate Winslet was photographed having a heart-to-heart chat with 5 1/2-year-old son Joe at his school in New York on Friday (October 30). Kate is also mom to 9-year-old daughter, Mia.

Kate was just awarded $40,000 after suing a British newspaper over an article labeling her "The World's Most Irritating Actress." The 34-year-old Academy Award-winning actress sued the Daily Mail in April (09) following a report that called her "vain" and accused her of lying about her fitness regime.

Following the ruling on November 3, Winslet released the following statement:

I am delighted that the Mail have apologised for making false allegations about me. I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise. I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy."

Kate Winslet was spotted running errands in New York on Friday (Sept. 25) with her husband, director Sam Mendes, and her beautiful daughter Mia Honey, who turns 9 next month. Earlier in the day, the 33-year-old Academy Award-winning actress was seen with her 5-year-old son Joe walking through the Meatpacking District.

The Revolutionary Road star recently talked about being a hands-on mom:

I mean, it's very tempting to have a nanny and live in a gated community and have a chef - I'd love to have a few dinners cooked for me. But I don't want that for my children. When they're older, if people say to them, 'Did you have a chef?' I want them to be shocked by the question."

Kate Winslet Avoids The "Perfect Life"

Oscar-winner Kate Winslet's life is not quite as glamorous as you might expect. The Finding Neverland star says that she purposely avoids luxuries like nannies and personal chefs because she doesn't want her kids Mia, 8, and Joe, 5, to get used to a "movie star existence."

"I don't have the perfect life. There are things I could implement within my life that would probably make it easier. But I deliberately don't do it because if I did, I would be living that movie star existence that I really try and resist," Kate, 33, says. "I mean, it's very tempting to have a nanny and live in a gated community and have a chef - I'd love to have a few dinners cooked for me. But I don't want that for my children. When they're older, if people say to them, 'Did you have a chef?' I want them to be shocked by the question."

Kate's husband is Revolutionary Road director Sam Mendes.

If you could afford it, would you hire a chef and nanny for your family?

Kate Winslet Does The School Run

Kate Winslet Does The School Run

Hands on mom, actress Kate Winslet walks her children Mia Honey, 8 1/2, and Joe Aflie to school in NYC Tuesday (May 26).

In a recent interview with UK's Marie Claire, the 33-year-old actress reflects on her looks saying, "Even now I do not consider myself to be some kind of great, sexy beauty. I don’t mind the way I’m ageing. No reason to panic just yet. I think I look my age, and that’s fine."

Oscar-winner and mom-of-two Kate Winslet graces the cover of the June issue of UK's Marie Claire.

In the interview Kate recalls her childhood struggle with her weight and adds, "Even now I do not consider myself to be some kind of great, sexy beauty. I don’t mind the way I’m ageing. No reason to panic just yet. I think I look my age, and that’s fine."

Kate, who is mom to kids Mia, 8, and Joe, 5, recently announced that she is suing London's Daily Mail for libel, saying that a "very unpleasant and nasty" recent article “injured her personal and professional reputation."

The piece was written in response to a recent interview Kate, 33, did with Elle magazine, in which she said, “I don’t go to the gym because I don’t have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home.”

The Daily Mail's response? “[Kate] has become, in my opinion, as drippy and as impossibly vain as the rest of them," writes the author. "She caught a nasty dose of Hollywooditis. It happens to the best of them, of course it does. It is the duplicitousness that enrages me and most other women I have spoken to."

Interestingly, Kate touches on media criticism in general in Marie Claire, saying, "They just go for the personal now in a way I think can be really crushing."

Though she recently earned the title of the "Ultimate Natural Beauty" in a UK poll, Kate Winslet says part of her still feels like the overweight kid she used to be.

Revealing her childhood nickname was “Blubber,” Kate tells Marie Claire, "I was the girl that people would always say, 'Ah, it’s such a shame, because you’ve got such a pretty face.'"

"I had that well into my teens," the Oscar-winner continues, adding, "Even now I do not consider myself to be some kind of great, sexy beauty. I don’t mind the way I’m ageing. No reason to panic just yet. I think I look my age, and that’s fine."

Kate, who is mom to kids Mia, 8, and Joe, 5, says that the intense Hollywood spotlight can be "crushing."

"'She’s fat, she’s thin, she’s married, she’s divorced.' I had all of that, and bouncing back from that criticism is f--king hard. But they just go for the personal now in a way I think can be really crushing."

The 33-year-old Revolutionary Road star says she thinks it’s important to reveal the truth behind the myth of Hollywood perfection, which can set an impossible standard. She’s criticized magazines for airbrushing photos of her in the past, and threatened to sue Grazia in 2007 over false claims that she was visiting a "diet doctor" in a desperate effort to slim down.

"I do think it’s important for young women to know that magazine covers are retouched. People don’t really look like that. In films I might look glamorous, but I’ve been in hair and make-up for two hours. With the nudity in The Reader, for example, even I was like, 'Damn, I look good.' It was a bit of body make-up. I don’t believe in pretending those things don’t go on."

Who do you think are Hollywood's Ultimate Natural Beauties?

The 33-year-old Academy Award winning actress said the best advice she has for her kids is to live authentically: “‘Be yourself—that’s all you need to be. Why do you want to be like that person? Be you. Be you.’”
