The apple does not fall far from the tree in the Irwin family. Bindi Irwin, daughter of legendary animal rights activist, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, has already made her mark on television as Bindi the Jungle Girl, and is now taking her love for animals to film. The 11 year-old is starring in the newest installment of Free Willy. In the new film, the actress does not actually work with a real whale, reports PEOPLE Pets. Irwin shares, “We don’t want to ruin the magic for the kids, but we didn’t use a real whale. And I feel lost without animals!”
The new film Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove, which is released today (March 23) on DVD and Blu-Ray, was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa last year. Of the experience, Irwin says, “It was so much fun. I told my mom I’d love to do a movie one day, and when Free Willy came along, I said ‘yes’ right away.” She adds, “They’re not just action-packed family fun, but they really have a message. You can learn something from watching them.”
The topic of using real animals for filming has become very controversial, with many celebs becoming involved in the fight for animal freedom. In a letter to Sea World, Inglorious Basterds star Eli Roth pleads with the adventure park owners to allow the wildlife in their parks to return to their natural habitat, after the death of a staff member working with an orca whale. The full letter on behalf of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals,) can be found on Radar Online.

New mom Padma Lakshmi, host of the hit reality show Top Chef, may be in the early stages of a custody battle, reports Page Six. After keeping the identity of 1 month-old daughter Krishna‘s father a secret throughout her pregnancy, it was revealed in January that the father is Columbia Business School professor, and brother to billionaire computer mogul Michael Dell, Adam Dell.
Although sources revealed that the couple had an arrangement in place, claiming Lakshmi did not have any expectations from Dell, the 40 year-old professor has reportedly hired lawyer Bill Zabel to help him gain rights and become a part of his daughters life.
A source close to the Top Chef host says, “If Dell has changed his mind, that’s his problem. They [Lakshmi and Dell] already have an agreement.”
Daughter Krishna Thea is the only child for Lakshmi, who has struggled with infertility in the past due to endometriosis.

As Simon Cowell meets with producers to discuss the future of his popular UK talent show, The X Factor, rumorville states that mom-to-be Dannii Minogue might be axed from the show because she is pregnant.
A source claims that Dannii’s return is “highly unlikely,” but the execs are worried about a backlash.
Simon and his team are very wary of getting into the sort of problems the BBC has had with its female stars over age and so on,” the source states. “For that reason, the best option is being seen as reverting to the three judges this year. That means the seat is open for Dannii to return at a future date, although it is unlikely.”
Dannii, 38, has already announced that she will not be attending The X Factor auditions, but would still like to be part of the show.
