Two of the world’s biggest stars – Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie – collide in the new romantic thriller The Tourist. Johnny says that meeting and getting to know his uber-famous co-star proved to be a “real pleasant surprise.”
“You don’t know what she might be like—if she has any sense of humor at all,” he tells Vanity Fair. “I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humor.”
He adds that he felt some sympathy for Angelina and her family, living in such an intense spotlight.
“Poor thing, dogged by paparazzi, her and her husband, Brad…all their kids. There are times when you see how ridiculous is this life, how ludicrous it is, you know, leaving your house every morning and being followed by paparazzi.”
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Johnny said that when they met for the first time last fall they “sat there and babbled about our kids and it was a huuuuuge relief.”
Angelina also admitted to feeling a few nerves at that first meeting – after all, she was a big fan after watching many screenings of Johnny’s Alice in Wonderland with her kids.
The mom-of-six said, “As I was waiting, I noticed these beautiful pictures of his [girlfriend, actress Vanessa Paradis] and kids…. When he walked in, he was as interesting as I’d hoped he’d be.”
