Kellie Pickler: Having A Baby Is “Like A Fad”

Country superstar Kellie Pickler is about to turn 25 on Tuesday, June 28th, but the newlywed and hubby Kyle Jacobs aren’t planning on giving in to the pressure to start a family just because it seems like everyone else is doing it.

“I don’t think people realize … the responsibility that comes along with it,” the American Idol alum tells CMT Radio‘s Cody Alan. “It’s almost like a fad.”

A “fad” that’s not only hit Hollywood, but high schools across the country, too.

I don’t know what’s gotten into these kids where they feel like they have got to have a baby because their friend has one or whatever,” Pickler adds. “They don’t take into consideration that it’s a very selfish thing to do if you’re not prepared and ready.

“I take that very seriously, and when Kyle and I are ready, then we will maybe cross that bridge if it ever gets here,” says Kellie. “Maybe life gives us a surprise, but we’re married and we have stability in our lives, so if that does happen, we are prepared.”

CMT Radio’s Live with Cody Alan airs weeknight’s from 7pm to 12am EST.

  1. Kellie is not afraid to speak her mind, and good for her!! It does seem like having a baby on your arm is the newest must have accessory- too bad that the kids are the ones who do not really get what they need growing up.. so many problems later on because of selfish parents. Its a huge committment and Kellie Pickler will be a great parent she sure seems to know whats important!!

  2. I think most people DO realize the responsibility that comes along with having children. Seriously, how out of it would you have to be not to? Having babies is not a “fad”. People have always been having babies and always will. What is a fad is the public fascination with celebrity pregnancies and kids. If you don’t want kids, or aren’t ready to have kids, fine. Don’t have kids. But what’s the point of speaking out about it as if you’re taking a stand against something? So annoying.

    • They do NOT realize it. All those pathetic excuses on 16 and pregnant, and Teen Mom are prime examples. Who suffers? The kids. Additionally the single celebrities who are choosing to go it alone treat them as accessories. There is nothing wrong with going it alone but to actively have a child on a whim is irresponsible and selfish.

      • What single celebrities treat their kids as accessories, pray tell? As a matter of fact, how do YOU know how any celebrities treat their kids? From pictures???

      • Maybe she was only talking about teenagers, but the first part of her comments didn’t seem like it. I’m not really so offended, just thought it was an idiotic thing to say.

  3. I dislike comments that are general such as here. And she did qualify her remark later with the use of the word kids. I think most people realize And some are cluelesss.

I just wonder why so many people are questioned so often and so early about having children. We have certainly become a nosy race.

My eldest daughter always called this style dress a mermaid dress too. She looks lovely here.
