Dressed in A Pea in the Pod maternity gear, Grey’s Anatomy star Sarah Drew recently celebrated her baby shower, hosted by Daddy Scrubs, at her Aunt Rosa’s home in Los Angeles. Sarah and husband Peter Lanfer were joined by castmates Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson, Grey’s creator Shonda Rimes, as well as family and friends.
In a black, white and purple vintage silhouette theme, guests enjoyed a onesie decorating station, a special slide show and Sarah’s own rendition of Bob Dylan’s Forever Young. The mom-to-be opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about the event that had “so many special moments.” The 31-year-old actress – all set for her surprise delivery in January – also talked about having “more energy lately” and the joys of feeling her baby move.
CBS: Tell us about the theme of your baby shower.
SD: “Jayneoni Moore did a wonderful job designing my shower. It had a black, white and purple vintage silhouette theme. My Aunt Rosa made her home look absolutely beautiful for the event.”
CBS: Who were the guests in attendance?
SD: “There were about 50 guests. The shower was full of all of my favorite women in LA including my mom who flew in from NYC and my aunt and cousins who flew in from San Francisco. Also, a few of my Grey’s friends were there. Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson and Shonda Rhimes all came. I felt so totally loved!”
CBS: Did you play any baby shower games?
SD: “We didn’t play any games but we had several fun stations. My dear friend Erin set up a onesie decorating station where people got to sit and decorate all different sized onesies.
My friends Bekah and Esther set up a crafts table where people made and decorated cards with their favorite family traditions and blessings for the baby. And Karl of Cut Arts Silhouettes made silhouettes of all of my guests. They each got one copy and another copy went into a big book for me. The activities were so much fun. I had a blast looking through the onesies, cards and silhouette book after the shower.”
CBS: What were some of your favorite gifts?
SD: “Happy Heinys gave me a whole set of cloth diapers. Peter and I weren’t planning to use cloth, but now that we have them, we are really excited to try them out. iCandy also gave us a gorgeous stroller. That was a pretty fabulous gift. I received a stunning mommy diaper bag from Moni Moni. My friends totally showered me with gifts. I was overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. One of my girlfriend’s crocheted a beautiful blanket for the baby and another friend sewed a homemade sun shade for the car seat. It was all pretty amazing.”
CBS: We hear that Peter received a pair of Daddy Scrubs. Does he plan to wear them during labor/delivery?
SD: “Definitely! They are super fun!”
CBS: Tell us about some of the special moments at your shower.
SD: “Before the shower, I had a few girlfriends come to my house and pray for me and the baby. We closed by singing a hymn together. That was a pretty incredible moment. Then, at the shower, my mom surprised me with a really beautiful slide show. She and my mother in law compiled pictures of me and Peter. There were pictures of us as babies and then as kids, and then pictures of us together from our wedding, and finally the ultrasound photos, and pictures of me with my growing belly. That was incredibly special. Then, after I opened gifts, my friend Kate and I sang Bob Dylan’s Forever Young as a blessing for my baby. There were so many special moments.”
CBS: Are you all ready for the baby or do you still need to stock up on some necessities?
SD: “We still have a few things we need, but for the most part, we are all ready to go!”
CBS: How have you been feeling? Is the baby moving a lot?
SD: “I’ve been feeling very well actually. I’ve had more energy lately and that’s been so nice, because it makes me feel more like myself. The baby moves all the time. I swear baby is gonna be a gymnast or something because I feel like he/she is doing cartwheels all the time. It’s really fun to feel baby move. Sometimes the movement is so strange I just bust out in giggles and take a look at my belly to see what’s going on. It’s really pretty amazing!”
