Season two of CMT’s My Big Redneck Vacation premieres June 6th at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT immediately following the 2012 CMT Music Awards. After their ritzy Hamptons holiday last season, Michelle Thomas and her rowdy relatives jump across the puddle for fish and chips and a fancy British estate in England.
Michelle opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about their overseas adventures full of butlers, aristocrats and all things foreign. She also talks about her first pregnancy and her “down-to-earth, fun-loving and respectful family,” who mean no harm by the term ‘redneck.’
CBS: Tell us about season two of CMT’s My Big Redneck Vacation premiering June 6. We hear you’re taping in England. What can we expect to see this season?
MT: “You heard right! This season will be crazier than season one! Our family definitely knows how to have to fun, especially when we’re overseas exploring a new place we’ve never been to before. I don’t want to give everything away, so you’ll have to tune in to see what antics we get ourselves into.”
CBS: Are you worried the title of the show might turn-off a few people? For our readers who haven’t seen the show, explain how the term ‘redneck’ is portrayed in your series.
MT: “I think often times people get the wrong impression when they hear the word “redneck.” We’re just a down-to-earth, fun-loving and respectful family who can have a good time anywhere no matter what the circumstances. I think a lot of viewers are able to relate to our family and that’s why the show has been so successful.”
CBS: What is it like working with Tom Arnold? Is he always telling jokes/pulling pranks?
MT: “Well, we don’t actually work alongside Tom Arnold. His jokes and commentary come after everything has filmed. He has been so entertaining as host of this show – his jokes are spot-on and we’re looking forward to finally meeting him in person soon!”
CBS: Congratulations to you and Jared! We hear baby No. 1 is on the way. How have you been feeling?
MT: “Thank you! This is my first child and this will be Jared’s second. Overall, I’ve been feeling pretty good so far. The main thing I have noticed, though, is the exhaustion. I can’t seem to get enough sleep!”
CBS: When are you due? Do you know the gender of the baby?
MT: “I’m due October 30th. We do know the sex of the baby… you will have to tune in to season two of My Big Redneck Vacation to find out though!”
CBS: Have you been working on a birth plan? Are you hoping for a natural birth?
MT: “I’m still working on a birth plan… I think if I decided to do a natural birth, I would probably end up hurting Jared [laughs]. I have a great support system in my family and friends so I know that whatever comes our way in terms of delivery, we’ll be able to get through it.”
CBS: How are you preparing for motherhood? How is Jared preparing for fatherhood? What kind of parents are you hoping to be?
MT: “We’re reading books on what to expect and what kind of parents are we hoping to be??? Well I think anybody that is expecting hope to be the greatest parents they can be. We are both reading some parenting books – the typical What to Expect When You’re Expecting-type of books. Of course we hope to be the greatest parents we can be. We’re very excited to welcome this new addition to our family.”
CBS: What’s up next for you?
MT: “Whatever life brings me, I’m gonna take it all in and make the best of what’s to come. Right now I’m just enjoying living in the moment, taking everything in while we’re in England and making the best of every situation. The family is planning on taking a trip to the 2012 CMT Music Awards on June 6th, so we’re excited to see our CMT family in addition to all the country stars scheduled to be there! And season two of My Big Redneck Vacation will premiere out of the Music Awards on June 6 at 10:30 p.m. ET.”
