Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi and her 2-year-old daughter Krishna were seen arriving at the ferry terminal in New York City en route to the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Jersey City on Saturday (June 2). Sporting matching white summer dresses, baby Krishna accessorized with a turquoise necklace and oversized shades.
As well as her various accessories, the sweet tot was also seen with very short hair – reportedly the result of the Hindu ritual Mundan where a child is freshly shaven to signify freedom from the past and moving into the future.
In a recent interview with iVillage, Padma – who speaks English, Tamil, Hindi, Italian and Spanish – said she’s proud of her daughter’s language skills.
My daughter is bilingual, so she can count to ten in a few languages, which is always charming when your relatives come over,” Padma gushed. “They are very happy about that. She speaks my native language, which is Tamil. It’s a South Indian language. She’s running and dancing and talking,” she added. “She has her own personality. She’s this fully-formed, tiny, opinionated girl.”
Krishna’s father is venture capitalist Adam Dell.
