Christina Applegate: It’s Fabulous Being A Stay-At-Home Mom

Christina Applegate is enjoying time off from work and staying at home with her 2-year-old Sadie – her daughter with husband Martyn LeNoble. In her interview with Parade – the actress talks about loving being a SAHM, Anchorman 2, and staying healthy after having a preventive double mastectomy a few years ago.

On taking a break from acting to focus on her family: “It’s been amazing. It’s been the best few months. I ended work in May, and I’m really happy just to be a stay-at-home mom. You know, it doesn’t seem like I’m a stay-at-home mom with all the things that I’m doing. But sometimes you have to do these things because you are staying home from work! Everyone has to make a living and be doing something for themselves as well. So, I’m very moderately busy with those things, but for the most part, I’m home with Sadie all day long, for 12 hours a day, and it’s fabulous.”

On why celebrities who have endured breast cancer have a responsibility to speak out about the disease:
“You think that three weeks after my mastectomy, I really wanted to go on Good Morning America? I really didn’t. It’s really the last thing I wanted to be doing. But I got outed, and I thought it was really important to talk about it. I thought it was really important to let people know that a woman of 36 and younger can develop this disease. But I’ll tell you, none of us really want to be talking about this. You think we want to talk about our cancer all the time? After a while, it gets like, ‘Ugh, I don’t want to talk about it anymore! Moving on!’ But if you do choose to go public with this, at some point you have to realize how responsible you are for influencing people. You have to choose your words really wisely.”

On her daughter Sadie’s quirky fashion sense, which inspired her collaboration with FabKids:
“Sadie goes into her closet every day and picks out her own clothes. That’s been her gig for at least 9 months now…and I love it! I love what she comes out with. It’s always something really interesting, and I would never have thought to put those patterns together, but it works on her. She’s inspired some of the FabKids lines, and that’s part of what my role is, is to bring some ideas to the table. Sadie’s mish-mosh of patterns and colors has helped inspire some of the collections.”

On what it was like reunited with her Anchorman cast for Anchorman 2:
“The best. Just the best. Our first table read that we had in Atlanta when everyone was there was the coolest thing ever. We all just ran in and we were just so excited to be there, each and every one of us. It was really wonderful. We’re really blessed to have had that experience both times.”
