Deborra-Lee Furness and Ava, 8, walked together to school on Tuesday (December 3). Their dog also joined them on the New York City streets.
Later that night Deborra-Lee and Hugh Jackman attended the David Lynch Foundation Presents: Change Begins Within Benefit Gala. At the event the couple talked about family bonding with children Ava and Oscar through meditation.
Jackman recalled, “I said [to one our our teachers] what do we do with the kids if we want to mediate? He said, ‘Just be quiet in the house and tell the kids they don’t have to mediate’ — they were young. But say, ‘There’s no TV, there’s no talking, you can read, do whatever you want.’ And what we found is we would meditate.”
“They just sit in a room with us,” Furness explained. “They loved it . . . They would be upset when the time ended. They sit there, they’d draw. They knew that they had to be quiet, but it made us all be together without using words or anything. But energetically we were all together sitting comfortably in our truth which is what this meditation is.”
Jackman added, “We got used to a quiet time together in the house. Now they’re sort of naturally getting into it. Meditation has changed our lives.”
