Jaime Pressly Opens Up About Mastitis, Mastectomy

During a Wednesday appearance on The Talk, actress Jaime Pressly opened up about her experience with mastitis, and ultimately, a mastectomy.

“When I had my son, I got mastitis but I didn’t know,” Pressly shared. “I just thought it was normal breastfeeding pain.”

Four years later, the My Name Is Earl alum, 37, discovered several lumps spread around her breasts. Doctors advised her to undergo an “almost full mastectomy.”

“I still have some breast tissue left, just from the mastitis because it mutated into something else because it sat dormant for a while,” Pressly shared. “But it was the craziest thing. Thank God it wasn’t [cancer].”

After her medical ordeal, Pressly – who welcomed son Dezi in May 2007 – is back to work on her new TV show, Jennifer Falls.

  1. I had no idea mastitis could cause harm like that…it’s an infection so a fever would be a huge clue. Is she saying that she didn’t know she had it and only realized it after finding lumps? Did her doctor tell her the lumps were from mastitis?

  2. I had mastitis with my first child and personally I don’t think there is any way you could mistake THAT PAIN for the normal pain of breast feeding. It was excruciatingly painful. I was lucky I got antibotics same day pain starting and it did not develop into sepsis so no further treatement was needed but 20 years later I still remember that PAIN.
