It was a royal arrival for Prince William, wife Kate Middleton and their two children – Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 16 months – who touched down in Victoria, British Columbia, Saturday (September 24), to kick off their eight-day tour of Canada.
Color coordinated in shades of blue, the Royal Family received a warm welcome from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau; Governor General of Canada David Johnston and his wife Sharon Johnston; Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon; Premier of British Columbia Christy Clark and her son Hamish.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 34, looked beautiful in a blue Jenny Packham dress, a matching Lock & Co. hat and the queen’s maple leaf diamond brooch.
Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge, 34, was dapper in a navy suit, Prince George rocked a sweet wool jumper and beige plaid shirt paired with navy blue wool shorts all by Pepa & Co, and Princess Charlotte was adorable in a blue floral dress and matching hair slide.
In a speech outside the B.C. legislature, Prince William addressed thousands who attended the official welcoming ceremony.
“Catherine and I are delighted to be back in Canada,” said William. “When we were here last time, we had been married only three months. The warm welcome that you gave us at that important moment of our lives meant a lot to us — and we have never forgotten it. That is why we are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us in Canada this time around, beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country.”
The prince added: “Catherine and I have asked to meet as many people from as many walks of life as we can while we’re here. We’re very much looking forward to learning about how Canadians are tackling some of the biggest challenges of the day.”
The Duke of Cambridge also recalled his visit to B.C. as a teenager in the late 1990s.
“We feel very fortunate to have time to get to really know parts of this country that we did not get to visit in 2011 but of which I have very happy memories as a shy teenager,” he said. “A few of you remember it too well, I think.”
Upon their arrival into Canada, the Kensington Palace shared some snapshots via Instagram.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte have arrived in Canada for #royalvisitcanada,” reads the caption.
“A little wave from Prince George to Prime Minister and Mrs Trudeau who together with The Governor General welcomed the family to Canada,” the video’s caption reads.
