To celebrate his 100th birthday, legendary actor Kirk Douglas gathered with friends and family at the Sunset Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel on Friday (December 9).
Guests included his wife Anne Douglas, 97, son Michael Douglas, 72, his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 47, and their children, Dylan, 16, and Carys, 13. Also in attendance were Kirk’s Rabbi; Jeffrey Katzenberg, 65; Steven Spielberg, 69; and Don Rickles, 90.
Guests celebrated the actor – who starred in classic films such as Spartacus, Lust for Life and Paths of Glory – in a room decorated with portraits of Kirk and a giant magenta “100”-shaped flower display.
After posing for some pics with family, Michael gave a speech at the birthday celebration.
“After all he accomplished in his professional career and what he’s given for his country, at the point in his life where he’s faced adversity, losing a son, having a helicopter crash, having a stroke, and what he’s accomplished in this third act in his life, I find quite extraordinary.” Michael said of his famous father.
As well, director Steven Spielberg paid tribute to the actor.
“I’ve been shooting movies and television shows for now 47 years and I’ve worked with the best of them and you’re the only movie star I ever met,” Spielberg said. “There is something that you have that no-one else ever had.”
And on Friday, Catherine Zeta-Jones shared an Instagram video, showing a montage of photos and clips of Kirk with his family throughout the years.
“Happy birthday Kirk,” the video read. “100 years old today. Love you Pappy.”
Happy birthday to Kirk!
