“It takes you a while. You feel off. You don’t feel like yourself,” the Heroes alum, 27, shared. “But, you know, women are so resilient, and that’s the incredible thing about them.”
She added: “I think I’m all the stronger for it. I think I’m a better mom because of it. Because you never take that connection for granted.”
The actress-singer and fiancé Wladimir Klitschko are parents to 2-year-old daughter Kaya.
As it turns out, her Nashville character Juliette Barnes is also dealing with PPD.
“I’m so glad to be back playing Juliet, everything that she’s been through is like a hazard sign in the road. She made me stronger,” she said.“I think it helped me identify what was going on. And to let women know that it’s okay to ask for help and that it’s okay to have a moment of weakness, and it doesn’t make you a bad person, doesn’t make you a bad mother. It makes you a very strong, resilient woman. You’ve just got to let it make you stronger.”
As for her toddler, it sounds like she’s quite the daredevil.
“She’s skiing! The kid has no fear,” the proud mom said of Kaya. “She would go straight into a wall if you let her.”
