Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Tori Spelling channeled her love for malachite while decorating her 4-month-old son Beau‘s nursery.
The actress, 44, opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about decorating her fifth baby’s bedroom in their Los Angeles-area home.
CBS: What inspired the room’s interior and color choice?
TS: “The room was originally inspired by my love of the stone malachite. I’m a big fan of the ‘modage’ look (modern and vintage mixed). Malachite is a stone that has always inspired my creative and positive energy and I wanted to share that with my son. After decorating 4 nurseries before Beau, I was inspired to do an ‘anti-nursery’ vibe and decor. Even when I pregnant with Beau I felt he was an old soul. Very wise little man. I wanted a nursery for him that felt chic and elevated. Taking ‘nursery’ to the next level.”
CBS: Tell us about the malachite touches.
TS: “The moment I found out that I was having a boy I knew that I wanted the stone malachite to be represented in his nursery. It was the inspiration for the decor. I pulled the deeper green from the malachite stone and paired that with a darker elevated blue. A fresh take on ‘baby boy’ colors.”
CBS: Where did you pick up the antiques?
TS: “I love mixing antiques with modern pieces and practical baby necessities. I wanted a mid century modern feel for Beau’s nursery. I mixed antique finds from LA, Portland (where my brother and his family live), and Palm Springs.”
CBS: Tell us about “Beau’s Ties.”
TS: “My hubby Dean came up with the idea of having ‘Beau=Bow Ties’. Again, finding a creative way to incorporate malachite fabric and a wink at Beau’s name. I called on my friend and designer Chris Wrobleski who has a chic bow tie company called Boutaugh to help design Beau’s Daily Bow Ties. He made 7 original Bow Ties for Baby Beau for the days of the week and they are framed on his wall.”
CBS: Tell us about the mega phone.
TS: “My Dad in college was the Yell Leader with the cheerleading squad. He went to SMU and I loved seeing his photos with the giant megaphone. When I was visiting Palm Springs recently with my family, I stumbled upon an antique megaphone just like the one my Dad used and it was in Beau’s green nursery color. It felt like a nice homage to my father having it in Beau’s nursery.”
CBS: Tell us about the beautiful baby furniture.
TS: “I knew I wanted Beau’s nursery to have a chic elevated feel to it. Newport Cottages has amazing pieces that fit into that vibe. They take the “nursery” out of nursery furniture. Because of their chic design Beau’s dresser will be able to evolve design wise in our home as Beau grows.
I love Brentwood Home mattresses. I feel safe and secure with their brand while knowing my baby will have the most comfortable sleep.”
I love the comfortability of Monte Jackson rockers mixed with their chic and sleek look. It felt like the perfect piece to go with the mid century vibe of them room. And the velvet is durable and soft.”
We love the Hatch Baby Scale. Beau was born a preemie and quite small. His doctor wanted him weighed often. This helped ease our mind that Beau was eating and growing enough daily. Very good for parents peace of mind! And very clean modern lines. It fits into any nursery.”
The mom-of-five also incorporated other elements into the nursery, including: Project Nursery Baby Monitor System, Juju and Jake – Knot Pillow and Braided Crib Bumpers, 4moms rockaRoo, Dekor Diaper Pail, RugsUSA.com rug, Spoon Flower fabric, and Hudson & Heart – “Leo the Lion” Lovey in crib.
And proud grandma Candy Spelling added a few final touches in the room, including a gold balloon animal piggy bank in the shape of a rabbit.
The True Tori star and her husband, Chopped Canada star Dean McDermott, welcomed their fifth child on March 2.
