“Billy is three months old today and doing great,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live host wrote. “Thanks for all your love & support and please remind your Congresspeople that every kid deserves the care Billy got.”
In June, Kimmel shared snapshots of his 3-year-old daughter Jane enjoying her homemade pancakes.
The funnyman, 49, and his wife Molly McNearney welcomed their son William “Billy” John Kimmel on April 21.
During his announcement, Kimmel said that nurses and doctors discovered their newborn had a heart disease that required open heart surgery. He went on to thank the entire staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for saving their son’s life.
“My wife was in bed relaxing, a very attentive nurse at Cedars-Sinai heard a murmur in his heart and noticed he was a bit purple, which is not common,” Kimmel explained. “[Nurses] determined he wasn’t getting enough oxygen in his blood, either in his heart or lungs … It’s a terrifying thing, you know my wife is back in the recovery room, she has no idea what’s going on.”
Their son was born with a congenital heart disease and there was a “hole in the wall of the left and right side of his heart.”
“He’ll have to have another surgery in 3-6 months,” Kimmel said, adding that Billy will need a third “non-evasive surgery when he’s older.”
