On Tuesday, Phelps defended himself for not racing against an actual great white shark during the Discovery Channel’s heavily promoted Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White, which kicked off the network’s Shark Week on Sunday night.
The 28-time Olympic medalist raced against a simulated shark that ended up beating him by two seconds.
“If somebody actually wants to get in the water and race side-by-side with a great white, go ahead,” Phelps said during a Facebook Live session. “You’re not going to get the shark to swim in a straight line. And, uh, yeah, it would be interesting to see. We’ll leave it at that.”
In May, the Olympian, 32, shared a snapshot with his baby boy.
The Phelps’ – who welcomed their firstborn on May 5, 2016 – recently shared birthday greetings for their son.
