Newly single Fergie opened up to EW about waiting eleven years for her second album, Double Dutchess, out Friday.
As it turns out, her role as mother to 4-year-old Axl took precedence. “I’m not going to sacrifice time with my child,” the Grammy Award-winning singer, 42, said.
She added: “That’s just not going to happen. They can keep banging on my door [to release an album], but I’m like, “I’m with Axl. I’m off the grid! Bye!”
The follow-up to her first hit album, The Dutchess, has been a “totally different” experience for the Glamorous hitmaker.
“It’s totally different,” she shared, “even the hours in the studio are different. Everything has to be so masterfully scheduled that it’s crazy.”
It sounds like motherhood has been transformative for the You Already Know singer.
“Getting pregnant reset me,” she said. “I just got on my game. People wanted me to release it and I was like, ‘It’s good, but I want it to be great.’ I’ve never taken this much responsibility. I’m executive-producing [the album] and I kept wanting to make it better and better. I wanted to strive for greatness.”
Earlier this month, the Hungry hitmaker and Transformers star Josh Duhamel, 44, announced their plans for divorce.
“With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” said the couple in a joint statement. “To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
