Mom-of-two Kate Hudson got glam at the premiere of her film Marshall at the Urbanworld Film Festival on Saturday (September 23), in New York City.
Donning a one-shouldered gown from her friend and designer Stella McCartney’s collection, the actress, 38, hit the red carpet for the first time with her shaved head.
The actress cut off all of her long, blonde hair back in late July to get into character for a new role in the film Sister, written and directed by the singer/songwriter Sia.
At Saturday’s event, Hudson dished on the story behind the big cut.
“I wish the story felt [bigger],” she told E! News. “For me, it was a necessary thing to do for this part. I was so excited about it. So it was like, ‘Okay, let’s just shave it.’ So it was more excitement than overthinking it.”
As it turns out, the actress’ 6-year-old son Bing buzzed it off.
“Bing actually cut it,” she shared. “I thought for him to be a part of it wouldn’t feel so shocking.”
Hudson’s two sons — including 13-year-old Ryder — didn’t seem too fussed about mom’s new look.
“My kids really didn’t care,” she confessed.
She added: “Every woman at one point should just shave it all off.”
“I copied Ryder,” Hudson told ET. “Ryder had it way before, Ryder’s been buzzing his head for a long time.”
And her elder son couldn’t help but see their uncanny resemblance for the first time.
“Ryder’s like, ‘Mom, you’re cramping my style,'” she laughed. “But when I did it, he was like, ‘Oh my God, we actually …’ It was the first time he even could see that we looked, you know, that he looked like his mommy. Now it’s starting to grow out, and Ryder’s growing his out.”
It sounds like she’s loving her low maintenance look.
“I like the ease of it, you know what I mean?,” she shared. “When I looked at the hair when it came off I was like you know this is…I’m so happy this is gone. It was a lot of wear and tear on that.”
Earlier this month, Hudson posted a photo with Ryder donning their matching buzz cuts.
